mod_gzip: it was on the olden server; never checked this one....

dial up: yesterday one of the top whiners told me "I use ISDN in work and it's slow" or words to that effect, so i thought he might have some observations

I'm using the 'work' version now and it's much quicker
Can't see who started and who posted last in the thread list though
you'll go blind

all that stuff was stripped out - the idea is just to have just the basics. it still looks shit, mind.

that was inrelation to the way you've split up boards unnecessarily and how it's only gonna get slower now that (in theory) i have to go back another level (to the main menu) to get to a different board to read a new post...etc...i honestly don't care. i'm stupid enough to remember f=14 = eirecore, f=5 = general board etc.. and can get around ok. the seperate gigs board is a shitty idea though. that's a cluas move right there.

the seperate gigs board means that the ads will remain visible longer and not get swaped in garbage. but who the fuck am I eh!

i dunno - check the number of views of the threads on the gigs board...way down compared to no of views of yer average random nonsense thread

anyway whatevs, people generally know what's on - they'll go if they wants to go

This is where people like me find out what's on. I'd prefer gigs on the main board - less likely to miss something I wanna see, more likelihood of the sort of discussion that might encourage me to go to a gig I might enjoy

I'd like to point out I said this as a person who doesn't go to 99.99999% of gigs.

I'd play it for a while and see how it goes because if by chance you don't visit this place as regularly as you guys it is good to have one spot to poke your head in and see whats going on without scrolling through robot threads and the like.

anywayz, each to their own, different strokes for different folks.........

Is there a way you can do both? As in letting the gig threads go ahead on the general forum, but also having some kind of rule where they're copied automatically onto the seperate gigs board? So that when you enter a comment it appears on both boards. That way you'd get more talk and discussion on each gig, and more people generally passing through would see it, but at the same time if someone just wanted to see at a glance everything that was on in town this week, they could do that as well.

Man, I know nothing about computers.

Yeah, I've got dialup at home too, and, apart from the mp3s and some of the bored at work links, you don't really notice the difference. Images are no problem- it can deal with all the robokittens just fine.

that's just silly. if you can't think of anything constuctive to say, maybe you shouldn't post here.

i have dial up and it's a load of shit. microsoft are bringing out a new system where you can plug your tv into the back of your computer and play dvds with people over the internet. and i'm stuck with dial up.

Sorry. I genuinely meant it as a constructive comment. I thought from a user's point of view, it would be handy, although technically, I had no idea if it was easy or difficult or downright impossible. I guess from what you're saying its a stupid idea from a technical point of view. Fair enough. But I wouldn't know if I didn't say it. And I really hate that snarky, superior "maybe you shouldn't post here" tone, wherever it pops up.

By the way, weren't you the guy on this thread who suggested thumped should ban women and make discussion about Morrissey compulsory? That's not exactly the most constructive thing I've heard all day. Not the funniest either, by a long, long shot, sunshine.

I don't know anything about computers, either. I know how to post here, and send an email, and use Word, and that's about it. I use old-fashioned overhead projectors and 'analog' slides when I give presentations because I think Power Point is a waste of time (for me. at least). I don't even know any programming languages, just dead ones.

When computers take over the world, Westworld style, and there are Maczillas stomping on all in sight, and plagues of iPods swarming like locusts, we luddites will once again be needed.

I hope....

i meant it as a joke. what you posted is one of the most 'constructive' things on this board. sorry if the morrissey and banning the girls jokes didn't grab you. i think i have a bad sense of humor or something.

pete, apologies if anything i said on the new messiahs thread caused it to be locked. maybe it's locked for some other reason. i'll try to moderate my brain a bit more.
