they're for exclamations. Ouch! etc. A guy i work with uses them on every second sentence. it wrecks my head. Grrr!

Apparently there's some writers ' rule' where you're allowed use three exclamation points for every 400, 000 words you write ! Unfortunately , every writer who keeps to the rules is generally shite ! Check out how my already high level of annoyingness is multipled infinitely by the linear bastards !
