The Mountain Goats (2 Viewers)

"she told me how you'd died at last, at last"

he's addressing his alcoholic stepfather directly (most direct tune in the tmg canon), an abusive irishman by the name of mike noonan (not the ex-fine gaeler).

When I first read about the subject matter of the album I was a bit "er..."

But I think he's one of the few lyricists around who could address something like that and not have it seem cheesey or melodramatic. Pretty much all of his lyrics are amazing though.

no, cd/lp are the same. there were two demo tracks of tunes that didn't make the album available with pre-orders from the beggars group, for u.s. orderers only - 'last man on earth' and 'toolshed'. worth hunting down, but nothing like the album.

I didn't know that board existed.
Must check it out.

have you ever made a 'Going To....' compilation?

i have one big tmg playlist w/421 tunes in it (507 inc. radio sessions, etc. but not including live shows), on permanent shuffle.

'going to...' is a series in name only, tho. no thematic continuity save for escape. i do sometimes play them in alphabetical order (see below)

the 'alpha' series relates to one couple, the 'orange ball' tunes are a tongue-in-cheek swipe at don de lillo.

heretic pride was a little bit shit i thought...

i have decided i don't need another mountain goats album... one from the early lo-fi days and 'the sunset tree' from the more recent 4ad days will suffice i reckon... no children is great though so i'll keep that and a couple of other random songs aside
