Aphex Twin and similar electronica.
I was only briefly impressed by him in 1992 and nearly everything I've heard by him was unremarkable. Not experimental or particularly unique.
I've seen shops full of this kind of music while other electronic genres are largely ignored.

90's rock genres with technical riffs and their offshoots are my main dislike - metalcore, emo, nu metal, math rock, post rock, technical ______ metal of any sort

Them videos were mad and good back in the day. Maybe it just caught me at the the right time of my development and the peak* of music video TV.
I can only take it in small doses.

*You know what I mean. People having a budget to spend on music videos for weird stuff.

The 1992 comp. Ambient Works 1985-92 was a huge deal at the time. Once you past that it was done by a young kid from Cornwall it is isn't much different from lots of other stuff from early 90's.

The point i was trying to get to is that like any musical act they are entirely intertwined and part of the expression
I disagree, marketing is obviously there in everything commercially available but Aphex Twin to me always feels like the product is conceived by an ad agency and some blips and boops are recorded to go with the package. Which for an underground “music legend” is mad altogether.

Marketing if you want to call it that is in everything, just some people call it other things - there is always a decision about presentation and aesthetic no matter how people dress up those words. I think the guy sounds interesting (with added 200AD creds..)
