So hurtful Rafa...

Benítez is yet to respond but there is a sense of bemusement inside Anfield about the allegations and, in particular, why Ferguson has felt it necessary to get involved. Allardyce did not raise the issue after the match and Benítez says the only gesture he made was a self-deprecating one to Xabi Alonso because the goal had originated from the midfielder ignoring his advice at a free-kick.

Benítez instructed Alonso and Emiliano Insúa to take a short free-kick and attack the Blackburn full-back, Keith Andrews, two versus one. Instead, Alonso whipped in a long ball that Fernando Torres headed beyond Paul Robinson and the Liverpool manager responded with a gesture to his players that apparently loosely translated as: "You were right. What do I know?"

The TV pictures appear to support Benítez but Ferguson says there is a case to answer. "I saw it and I'm surprised nobody picked it up," he said. "I think you should respect a manager. I don't think you'd ever get me doing something like that - you won't. You have to have humility."

humility? alex ferguson? benitez has actually got to him after all.

gerrard still out for the arsenal match.... unless it's just a cunning plan of disinformation

Well in fairness, it's also got a lot to do with the fact that they've been winning titles consistently for about 15 years. I've always found that slightly annoying.

Liverpool dominated in the 1970s and 1980s yet ABLs did not exist then.

Ferguson is probably the main reason.

Can't you only have one "Anyone But .." club?

Here's the vid of Ferguson

What gets me is not the particulars of the remarks but how angry (i.e. rattled) he looks.
Like Rafa is really under his skin.

Yeah, but if Chelsea never played United, I'd be totally "Anyone but Chelsea". If Chelsea were in the Championship for instance and trying to get promoted. Or if United got knocked out of Europe in the group stages.

ah in fairness they did.

i think its the commercialisation of the sport (especially mid to late 90s when it was a new thing) that people latched onto more than a dislike of ferguson.

anyways, fuck it- its all just jealousy. pool fans would give the left ball to have fergie manage them.

I don't think I can take too much more of this.
I cannot believe that absolutely fucking shambolic defending, again. First three Arsenal goals were on an absolute plate. Fair dues to Arshavin obviously, particularly the second.
Ridiculous character to keep coming back, and we continue to play fantastic high tempo attacking football. But that result is gutting. Strange things happen at the end of seasons, but we are probably looking for too much now.

brilliant game! arshavin - what a guy!

Take it to the Arsenal thread.

Still can't believe that result. The defending was shocking for Arsenal's goals, Aurelio and Arbeloa in particular. The keeper seems to have played a blinder for the first half. Liverpool had 15 shots on target, Arsenal had four and they all went in. And can anyone remember a team ever drawing 4-4 in consecutive games?

Madness. Sigh...

Mascherano fucked up too and had a bit of a stinker. I thought when he was out for the first Chelsea game that he was the reason why Pool lost? Then he's back and they concede eight. Odd one.

Physically and emotionally drained after that and again this morning even after a nights sleep. i was losing the plot watching it and my girlfriend should have left me.
i commented to friends on how both masch and aurelio were playing poorly long before both fucked up. and arbeloas effort to retrieve a ball Carra headed to him was disgraceful. Carra looks more fucked than ever. long season catching up?

on the plus side Benni was brilliant. and brave as fuck.

I dunno if I can take much more of this.... :(

Listened to the game on a crackling 5 Live reception. Was roaring all over the house. The game summed up Liverpool's season though - complete mix of emotions - frustration, confusion, delight, fear, and despair.

Just brought myself to watching the goals now.

Exciting game as it was that was some of the worst defending I've ever seen from teams in the top four.

People slag Paul McShane and John O'Shea off for being crap defenders but Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Gibbs, Sagna, Silvestre and Toure made those two look like Baresi and Scirea last night. Comical.

And: Arshavin is the new Michael Thomas. Discuss.

In the sense that Liverpool will buy him??

Outside of the 4 goals he didn't contribute much last night. But his finishing is something else. I watched videos of him with Zenit and there was one particular trick he had of lashing the ball into the roof of the net from a short distance out, keeper usually had no chance.

Fabregas was shit last night too, i'd say his mind is in Barca already.

carra beginning to feel it, dyas reckon?
crucial to hold onto agger. i'd like to see him and skrtl more often.
rightback is a real problem, has been all season. i was watching arbeloa last night, he went up the pitch and flung a couple of decent balls in the box. i thought to myself, can liverpool really be champions with this numptie playing practically every game. he answered that for me, unequivocally. g. johnson. 10 mil. do it.
