We’re bidding on a house at the moment and the other person just keeps going up by 1k.
It’s online bidding so seems fairly transparent, it’s just the fact that it’s a small bid at a time that’s pissing me off.

I don't miss that. All clear here since the baby wipe flushing neighbour moved out.
Our septic tank tends to flood when there's heavy rain. It's probably been blocked for weeks. I thought our Japanese toilet would have put paid to it but the tank itself was poorly installed.
Horrible job. And I don't take any joy in having become quite good at doing it.

Fuck that

Was in the bank today helping my mother with some of her business.

Ahead of us was an even older woman, who seemed very confused and agitated. She wanted to take a large sum of cash out. I'd seen her get out of a BMW SUV in the car park.

She was talking about how she was in a rush as her brother was outside he was helping her. (Not enough to come into the bank with her).

The bank staff member who'd eventually deal with us, took her into a room by where I was so I could still get a gist of what was going on after she'd gone to get the manager to deal with her, it didn't sound like the staff were happy that she was taking out such a large amount. I think they ended up giving her 5k and then another 5k on Tuesday when the bank is open again.

The whole thing felt really suss.

I took the licence number of the vehicle when I got back to my car.

The guy in it looked younger than I'd expect her brother to look like. Feasible but she looked 80's and he looked 60's.

Maybe it was legit, maybe it wasn't, but it failed the smell test, y'know. It was mostly the vibe of "I'm not happy that I'm doing this" I got from the people in the bank when it came to giving her that much cash.

It's her money of course and it'd be wrong for the bank to refuse her but it seemed like there was a wellfare issue in here.

The bank could, should and probably will do it. It is no doubt something they see all the time.

I don't think it'd be busybodyish for you to call as well though. The way you describe it is concerning.

the bank are in a more difficult position. they do have rules regarding fraud, etc., and a duty to report what they think might be criminal activity, but i'd say once they stay within mandated procedure they cannot take any further action as that'd be a breach of confidentiality which they'd take quite seriously.

a quick chat with a local garda couldn't hurt, i guess. you don't have to go as far as officially 'reporting' it; just tell them what happened, and they can tell you if they have any power to take it further.

Perhaps it's time to put all the online games and quizzes into a subforum under Bored in Work?

We now have

  2. NY Times quick crossword
  3. Flag game
  4. Year game
  5. Guess the book/movie title (when they come around)

Yes even a functioning "mark as read" would be helpful or the ability to ignore a thread which can actually be done by ignoring the member originally started it. Not that I have anything against someone playing a crossword but as far as I know a flagle is a round thing with a hole that you might put butter and jam on after taking it out of the toaster.
