Merzbow albums... (1 Viewer)

"dharma" is the only one of his own albums anyone needs. unlike most of his output, this is well-constructed musically.

the best thing with his name on it is "sleeper awakes on the edge of abyss", which is a gloriously soothing ambient masterpiece. it is however 99% christoph heemann (of mirror) and at most 1% masami akita.

the john wiese collaboration from a few years back ("multiplication") is amazing. total face melting stuff. turmeric is another great latter day merzbow. i've never gotten round to picking up a lot of the apparently essential early to mid-90's albums but rainbow electronics, music for bondage performance, noisembryo and pulse demon all seem to be generally highly regarded. from the earlier material, batztoutai with material gadgets is great, although i only have the "re-created" CD version ... sounds like nurse with wound (sorry brian!) meets smegma (CD1 that is; CD2 is more his extremely loud 90's onwards sound). the smegma collaboration is pretty good too actually, although i preferred the smegma plays merzbow side

i can burn some stuff up for you if you want barry. pm me your address if you want

oh yeah, amlux and the two tzadik albums, 1930 and sphere, are all great too. as is dharma

the earlier the better i think for the most part.
pulse demon is also quite good.
i'm happy having 3 or 4 records and that's enough for me.
