So I want to buy a laptop from Dell.ie really soon, I'm gonna be using it for sound recording mainly, but there will be some video editing too. Could anyone help me out and suggest what sort of specifications i should be looking for. I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible as I'm on a bit of a budget, and I'll be adding an external soundcard afterwards. I don't want a Mac or a Powerbook or anything, has to be a Dell Laptop

I'd guess a P4, 1gig of ram and a good video card will see you to rights. You should probably look into wether a P4 or a Pentium-M is better for what you wanna do. Make sure you get a firewire port.

Go for the Dell business model (not the consumer one) and best spec you can afford.
Pentium M is better for laptops but P4 can have better actual performance.
