Grumpy staff, but it's really cheap. No frills, not even a breakfast thrown in but does the job.

rembrandtplein hotel had an incredibly good deal a few months ago. dont book it through their site though, there's another one that gives you the deal. hostelbookers or some such.

Stayed in a deadly cheap as fuck hostel/hotel a few years back in amsterdamn, the guy who ran it was some old new zealand hippy lad, fuckin loadsa deadly lovely old cats all around the place too. The room was grand, his only rule is no crack. Good times. I think it was called Hotel Rose or Rosa, damo was there too maybe his memory is better!

i can't remember the name, but it was on nieuwezijds voorburgwal.
bob's you hostel is the cheapest/most buzzin.
stayed in the euphemia a few times, definitely a good spot and a bit away from all the action (which is def a good thing in amsterdam).
