Good man Stephen Ireland... (4 Viewers)

There wouldn't be more than two European teams in any one group.

Okay so for sake of arguement substitute serbia with the Ivory Coast or another strong african nation, anyway you can see the difficulty we'd have under the current ranking/seeding system. Maybe i am missing something but england didn't even qualify for the last european championships and they're in the top ten how does this happen? Turkey were semi finalists and they're 27th in fact just checked and even in august 2008 after Turkey had finished 3rd/4th they were only one place England in the rankings what the fuck is that about?

On the subject i hope turkey qualify, they were the heroes of the euro's they're in a dodgy spot though four points down on Bosnia with two to go. Not that you can begrudge Bosnia anything though would love Turkey to get Germany in a play off and hammer them. The neo- Nazis in Berlin would go fucking nuts and we could all pop over to give them a hiding. Just like some recent event that Matt Damon and Tom Hanks were involved in.

Hahahahahaha this thread just keeps producing!!!

I like Martin Rowlands as he's a QPR player and all, but this makes no sense whatsoever: http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1801_5609264,00.html

Is it a mistake..? The squad hasn't been announced yet has it?

Rowlands receives Ireland call

QPR skipper Martin Rowlands has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifying double-header.
Rowlands: International call

The midfielder, who was sent off during Saturday's defeat by Swansea, was initially placed on stand-by but has now been confirmed in Giovani Trapattoni's full squad.
Ireland face Italy on October 10 and Montenegro on October 14.

What the fuck does Andy Ried have to do to get in the squad?

Lose weight and forget how to pass?

Anyone know anything about Rowlands?

Very good player who's been unlucky with injuries. I'd say Stan Bowles can tell us everything we need to know.

Ridiculous that Reid is overlooked again.

Very good is stretching it. Decent club man who can pick a pass and has an eye for goal. He's no Liam Lawrence.

Rowlands is a very good championship midfielder, probably wouldn't cut it in the prem. Very comitted and tidy. However as already mentioned he's made of glass, so he'll probably injury himself in training.

rowlands already has a couple of caps to his name. didn't set the world alight. what about keith fahey? this is weird, does trap even watch football any more?

Reid was excellent again against Man Utd at the weekend. This is all getting very silly. We have a potential midfield that could allow us to punch well above our weight in Europe and instead we're fielding a midfield that would struggle to beat Accrington fucking Stanley. If Staunton was managing the same situation in the same way he would have been absolutely crucified by the press and fans but with Trap there seems to be a general assumption that there is an as yet unseen strategy at work. There fucking isn't.

to be fair, he's yet to lose a game, so that's why he gets the leeway. if we beat italy on saturday, what then?

If we get to the World Cup grand but if we don't, I think, while he wouldn't be quite 100% to blame, he's certainly unnecessarily made things more difficult for us with his selections.

If Whelan and Gibson start against Italy there's not a whiskey's chance in bumtown of beating them
yeah, we'll be ploanskied. and duff is out too? so, it'll be hunt, whelan, gibson, mcgeady? we are cunted.

did finnan get a call up?

Haven't heard anything about Finnan yet, although the Indo reckoned yesterday he'd get a call.
Don't think Duff is 100% yet is he? Maybe he could make the Black Mountain game?
