Forbidden Fruit 2015
The City Centre Multi-Stage Music & Arts Festival
June Bank Holiday Weekend / Friday 29th - Sunday 31st May
The Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin 8
Early Bird Weekend Tickets at EU99.50 on sale this Thursday 29th January

The beloved festival-on-your-doorstep, Dublin city centre’s multi-stage music and arts festival, FORBIDDEN FRUIT, is set to return for its fifth installment on the June Bank Holiday weekend, 29th - 31st May 2015.

The beautiful grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art play host once more to the growing three-day frolic, which has become firmly fixed in the gig-goers calendar as the grand-opening to the festival season, and the official start of the summer.

Now with over 70 acts across five stages (Original Stage, Undergrowth, Lighthouse, Someplace Else, and The Workshop), offering a wide selection of different styles of music, old and new, to suit all tastes, you can expect the usual fruity cocktail of great cutting-edge sound, comedy, art, good food, and festival fun.

Some tempting new additions to this years festival include The Workshop Stage, (new band stage), a new Odessa Vodka cocktail bar, and the Glastonbury favourite, The Inflatable Church Collective, among other things. And we’ll see a return of the ever-popular Bulmers Lounge.

Organisers are very excited to reveal just a mouthwatering taste of the festival line-up, beginning with FATBOY SLIM, the man who almost single handedly took dance music from the clubs, into the living room, and to the top of the charts in the 90s and 2000s. Next up are revolutionary rap group WU TANG CLAN, finally set to re-appear on stage together, with the surviving original members reunited, and armed with new album, "A Better Tomorrow”, – their first full-length in seven years.

Seminal Berlin house legends BOOKA SHADE make a welcome return to the festival, playing their incredible live show, while Manchester’s inimitable MR SCRUFF will bring his trademark visuals and bewildering array of infectious beats to Forbidden Fruit for the first time.

Joining Wu Tang on the rap bill are some of hip-hop’s hottest newcomers- EARL SWEATSHIRT, the 20-year old phenomenon from Los Angeles, and JOEY BADA$$, the online sensation, whose massively anticipated debut album has just come out this week. Also announced are hip-hop duo RUN THE JEWELS, who have recently released what critics have called “the hip-hop record of the decade”.

For the electronic fans out there, our initial announcements include hotly tipped young Dutch DJ and producer, BAKERMAT, and Belfast techno master EJECA. Swiss remix wunderkind CYRIL HAHN also returns to the festival, while London electronic duo DUSKY, and homegrown superstar dj MATADOR will keep the slick beats coming.

Ever-expanding, Forbidden Fruit will be a three-day festival this year, with acts across every genre to be announced over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for our initial indie and comedy announcements, as well as many more top-quality acts of a similar flavour to above.

Early bird weekend tickets go on sale at 9am on Thursday 29th January at €99.50 inc booking fee, through Ticketmaster and usual outlets.

————— FORBIDDEN FRUIT LINE-UP: SECOND WAVE OF ACTS ANNOUNCED—————

RICHIE HAWTIN

Artist, DJ, conceptualist, and ambassador, more than anyone else in modern electronic music, Richie Hawtin has relentlessly proved himself to be a true innovator. Known for his impeccable taste in minimal techno, Hawtin's gifts made him a hero of the early '90s underground dance music scene, and his quarter-century long career has been characterized by a restless urge to push electronic music forward. The pioneering DJ, producer, and record label owner, who has melted minds for more than 20 years, and was 2014's recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the AIM Independent Music Awards.

JAMIE xx

The beat-maker and knob shaker from The xx, also a prolific remix artist and producer, has worked with artists including Adele, Jack Peñate, and Florence + the Machine, as well as his amazing work with Gil Scott-Heron.

DAMIAN LAZARUS & THE ANCIENT MOONS

Since the moment he spun his first record, Damian Lazarus's mission has been a clear and urgent one: to blow away the mediocre, the over-inflated, the obsolete; to seek out and celebrate the energetic, the important, the new. Always rebelling, always going places. As a DJ, Lazarus nurtures and shares the most exciting and experimental music on the planet.

GROOVE ARMADA DJ SET

One of dance music’s biggest live draws, Groove Armada have been making and playing music together for more than 20 years. They’ve seen superclubs come and go, and superstar DJs rise and fall. And on more than one occasion they’ve survived dance music’s supposed demise. In that time they’ve released eight massively successful studio albums, and - with singles like “I See You Baby”, “At the River”, and Grammy-nominated “Superstylin” - are behind some of electronic music’s most enduring tracks. But perhaps most remarkably, they’ve succeeded in achieving both chart success with major label releases, and remained credible as underground DJs. Groove Armada's consistently superb productions, incredible live shows, and plethora of hits see them still sitting at the top of British electronic music.

MOUNT KIMBIE DJ SET

Renowned for pioneering a unique brand of melodic electronica born from the age of the bedroom DJ, this production duo have far surpassed their post-dub roots releasing a series of melancholic anthems of sorts, which have transcended core electronic music fans and gained respect across music lovers of a multitude of genres. Mount Kimbie released their now-seminal debut Crooks & Lovers in 2010. Since then, they haven’t stopped, with album number 3 currently in the works.

WAZE & ODYSSEY

This house music production and DJ duo from London shot to fame last year with their wildly popular remix of R Kelly’s R&B classic “Bump n Grind”, which clocked up well over 1.5 million YouTube views before it’s official release, cementing itself as one of the biggest tracks of the summer. W&O create house music of the highest calibre, traveling the globe performing dynamic DJ sets, and generally being one of the most exciting acts to emerge from the electronic music world for quite some time.

DISCIPLES

Following the reception that greeted their underground hit “Remedy”, London-based production trio Disciples released their “Catwalk” EP last March, as their first release for Pete Tong’s prestigious FFRR label. The outfit honed their genre-splicing, uplifting sound, before being championed by the likes of DJ Target, Trevor Nelson, Toddla T, and Cameo. Disciples have also remixed artists as varied as Robin Thicke, John Newman, Grouplove and HAIM.

KELELA

LA-based vocalist and songwriter Kelela Mizanekristos caused waves with her 2013 debut mixtape, “Cut 4 Me”, which earned vaulted praise from music critics and contemporaries. Kelela has toured with Solange, Inc, Teengirl Fantasy, and Total Freedom, and has already caught the attention of publications like V Magazine, Fader, Fact, and Pitchfork. She is currently in the midst of several collaborations and already crafting her next release.

BOOKA BRASS BAND

What started out as a group of young music students shyly addressing a bar full of revelers has unforeseeably and speedily become an 8 piece band of professional entertainers and craftsmen, capable of not just grabbing and holding the attention of thousands of fans in a festival tent or at any number of their recent sold out shows. The band’s debut EP “BBB” has just been released.

The beloved festival-on-your-doorstep

Unless, of course, it actually is on your doorstep, and you're forced to either live somewhere else for the duration or put up with wading through streams of piss and puke and walking through groups of drunk strangers with cans if you want to go outside, and just listening to and having your view spoiled by them if you stay inside.

I hate this festival. People who go to it are apparently people who think pissing down into a creche playground is cool.

Booka Bras Band are class.

I can't abide festivals though so I shouldnt even be here.

Unless.... its 300 headbangers in a large ditch and the bands sound like either A.Some lads killing a cat B.Some lads hitting guitars with ball pein hammers or C.Both of the last two sets of lads all onstage together at 6 in the morning roaring stuff about animal rights and the polis are total scum. and I'm on ketamine in the ditch fighting some mad cunt over a half a can of lager next door....I'm not interested.
