had my first shave in a couple of months tonight. took fucking ages.

Do you not have a beard trimmer?
I just mill through my beard with the beard trimmer, and then have a quick wet shave. Its done in no time.

You have to get a good beard trimmer, a Wahl or something otherwise it reefs rather than cuts.

I usually do it in the back garden to, trailing the cord in a window. The trimmer tends to shoot bits of hair all over the shop == pain in the hole to clean up.

i've a fairly girly beard though.

Electric shavers are shit, and hard work to clean. Dont bother getting one, just get bic disposible razors.

electric shavers make yer face itchy and give ya spots. you could spend hours trying to shave the top of your moustache.

use a hunting knife like a real man...

If wet shaves hurt your skin maybe try and use a better shaving gel (nivea) and some balm afterwards. Or get shaved in a barbers. Or get chemotherapy.
