WOOHOO! The extraordinary, entertaining and gifted gentlemen from London, blur are coming to a house, ‘a very big house in the country’!

Topping the list of 23 additional acts to be announced today for Electric Picnic 2015 - Britpop’s golden boys will be making their Stradbally debut for a headline show at this year’s Electric Picnic to back the release of their brand new # 1 album The Magic Whip. Their first in 16 years. They’re going to be in good company for what promises to be the most dazzling display of legendary talent ever!

Also announced:

blur

Sam Smith – Grace Jones – Interpol

FKA Twigs – Despacio – Paul Kalkbrenner – Yasiin Bey - Mac DeMarco

MK – Gavin James – Printer Clips - Julio Bashmore – The Riptide Movement

blur will be making their Stradbally debut for a headline show at this year’s Electric Picnic to mark the release of their new album The Magic Whip which shot straight to the top of Ireland's album chart upon its release. Since their arrival into the global music scene in 1991, blur have gone on to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with five successive UK #1 albums. Their brand new album The Magic Whip saw blur’s early producer Stephen Street, returning to work with the band on the new material. Albarn then added lyrics and the 12 tracks on The Magic Whip are the result!

Four time Grammy award winner SAM SMITH is joining the already stellar line-up for Electric Picnic 2015! The chart topping singer first came to prominence in 2012 when he was featured on Disclosure’s breakthrough single Latch. 2015 has seen him selling out solo tours across the globe. His live performance is sure to bring shivers down the spine of many picnickers or even a tear from his heartfelt lyrics.

One of the most unforgettable characters from New York City’s disco scene during the late ‘70s GRACE JONES, is making what is sure to be a welcome return to the Picnic. The veteran music and fashion icon’s live sets are renowned as nothing short of incredible, moving from disco to funk and from pop to punk but it’s all presented within a visual spectacular as stunning as the musical artistry that she presents on stage. We’re already looking forward to the flamboyant lasers and numerous costume changes.

INTERPOL last graced the Stradbally Estate in 2011 bringing the main stage to a rapturous close. During this time the New Yorker rockers took a short hiatus, trying out some solo projects and losing bassist Carlos Dengler. Now as a three piece the band are back touring their fifth studio album El Pinto. Described as a ‘revitalised return to form’ fans can expect tracks from this outing and indeed their career to date.

Just four years ago, Tahliah Barnett was making a name for herself as the best backup dancer in huge pop videos but she wasn’t satisfied. Now as FKA TWIGS the spotlight is fully fixed on her alt R&B musical style which is emphasized by her unique dancing skills. Her performance at Coachella was noted by Billboard as being “One of the weekend’s most mesmerizing performance” so there’s no doubt we’re in store for a superb performance in Stradbally this year.

No strangers to Electric Picnic, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and 2manydjs have collaborated to bring their unique clubbing experience, DESPACIO to Stradbally Estate this September. These three iconic names in the electronica music scene will have their very own tent with a PA system which the trio designed themselves. Throughout the 6-8 hours curated by the electronic trio they will share the work in the booth, playing only vinyl and focusing on the picnickers’ experience of the set rather than the stage spectacle.

The ambitious, German producer and DJ PAUL KALKBRENNER is making a return to Ireland and promises to bring an ecstatic, energetic live set to County Laois. Paul Kalkbrenner has played to hundreds of thousands of people in venues and open air concerts across the world. In the techno scene, Paul Kalkbrenner is a down to earth superstar, often revelling in the atmosphere he creates with fans yet he never takes his foot off the pedal, making sure everyone has the best time. Keep your dancing shoes on for this one!

Actor, rapper and activist YASIIN BEY (formerly known as MOS DEF) started his career as a child actor but is best known for his socially conscious hip-hop music. Starting out in 1998 with Talib Kweli as Black Star and later as Mos Def he has released six albums. Whilst his last release was in 2009 he remains one of the most highly regarded rappers of his generation as well as a highly respected actor. His intelligence, verbal skills and keen eye for social observation have made him a spokesman of the hip-hop generation who appeals to people from all walks of life.

Canadian multi-instrumentalist and multimedia artist MAC DEMARCO emerged from complete obscurity under the moniker Makeout Videotape. The gap toothed sweetheart’s last album was in 2014 entitled Salad Days which received rave reviews, with NME citing it as his “best album to date” - he is following that release up with a mini album Another One out in time for the Picnic on 7th August.

MK or Marc Kinchen is one of the most idiosyncratic house producers of the 1990s, tempering his feel for soulful New York styled garage with the energy of hard techno. Over twenty years ago, MK hit No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart with Always & Love Changes which are still popular in the dance and techno scene today worldwide.

GAVIN JAMES has just signed to Capitol Records in America and Sony in Europe is taking to the stages of Stradbally Estate this September. The Dubliner is a well-seasoned performer and will have no problem working the Electric Picnic crowd after his support slot to Ed Sheeran on his sellout dates in Croke Park earlier this summer.

Irish folk group PRINTER CLIPS formed in 2011 and is led by Bell X1’s Paul Noonan. Noonan’s side project has a stellar line up of female artists including Lisa Hannigan, Martha Wainwright, Gemma Hayes, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Cathy Davey, Julia Stone and more. Noonan’s vocals are beautifully accompanied by the delicate voices of his collaborators.

JULIO BASHMORE’s first love is house music although he grew up in bass music hotbed, Bristol. The house maestro has been working on his hugely anticipated debut album Knockin’ Boots for two years and it will be out on his Broadwalk label this July. The curve of Bashmore’s career has been steep and remarkable, from producing tracks in the bedroom of his parents’ house to playing festival main stages around the globe a number of months later.

Since forming in 2009 Dublin quartet THE RIPTIDE MOVEMENT have steadily seen their star ascend with their third album Getting Through achieving the number one spot in the Irish charts and being shortlisted for the Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year in 2014. Their hit single All Works Out even saw a cameo from Irish actress Amy Huberman! The band continue to gig and have had impressive support slots to the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park and at Glastonbury last year.

Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and producer Raf Rundell will be peering out from beneath their costumes as THE 2 BEARS to keep revellers dancing to their unique musical style. The retro pop-house duo have experimented on decks across the world to create their bold, dancefloor-centric second album The Night Is Young last year, which is sure to get some shoulder-shaking dance moves going into the small hours of the night in county Laois.

18 year old Derry native SOAK born Bridie Monds-Watson will be gracing picnickers with her gentle yet raw vocals and oblique narratives this September. Her forthcoming album Before We Forgot How To Dream is out on June 2nd and is a musical documentation of her life events but unlike other artists it is between the ages of 13 and 18. Although performing solo, SOAK has no problem capturing the attention of thousands.

Americana soulsters DAWES, will be making their first appearance at the Picnic in September. If you are wondering how they will sound at the Picnic go buy their album! They recently told Rolling Stone their latest album All Your Favourite Bands “is a really great example of what we sound like on stage”. These critically acclaimed rock n’ rollers have been around since 2009 and recently performed Things Happen on the Letterman Show.

Canadian post-punk band VIET CONG whoare making their Irish debut later this month, will also be taking to the stages of Stradbally Estate this September. For a band that rush-released their debut EP seemingly out of nowhere last year, Viet Cong are assuredly deliberate in their pacing, only arriving where they want to once they are good and ready.

BENJAMIN CLEMENTINE is an English pianist, singer and songwriter who is strictly self-taught. Prior to his 20th birthday Clementine was supporting himself by busking before being discovered by an agent. His debut album was released in 2013 but Clementine is no stranger to the limelight having performed on BBC Two’s Later….with Jools Holland. We’re looking forward to seeing his unique piano playing in action in Stradbally at this year’s Picnic.

Five piece London band, FAT WHITE FAMILY are known for their boisterous live performances with front man Lias Saoudi one performing while rubbing butter over his naked torso! However that’s not the only reason they are recognised as being one of Britain’s most sensational young bands who have garnered critical adulation for their skuzzy mix of country, rock & roll, post-punk and nihilistic psychedelic style.

HONNE are two longtime friends inspired by classic soul and complex synths and they have formulated a unique style which is warm and sensual. Honne are definitely on the rise and are playing numerous festivals throughout the summer including BBC Radio 1’s One Big Weekend later this month.

The enigma that is KWAMIE LIV will be heading for Ireland’s shores for the very first time this September. This Danish Zambian songstress’ ethereal vocals can be found on their EP Lost in the Girl, which was released last year. She is heading for big things so definitely one to watch.

If you are looking to dance and boogie on the lawns of Stradbally Estate then look no further than FICKLE FRIENDS. This Brighton based pop quintet have released three singles and already amassed quite the fan following along with some stellar reviews. Describing themselves as 80s new wave pop, they will have fans grooving to their disco-tinged strut.

Is Grace Jones in the middle of a revival or are they seriously lacking big headline acts?

Don't get me wrong, it's cool that she's so high on the bill but it's just a bit surprising.

thats a new low point for irish festivals then (even lower than amanda brunker playing at oxegen)

I'm guessing he's going to be one of the headliners. I imagine there'll be a lot of teenage girls like this (with those head flower wreaths coz fashun):

I was convinced I saw it but looking at that link made me realise I wasn't at Oxegen that year. Oh well.
You're possibly confusing her with Sharon Corr at Electric Picnic the same year. A lot of people went purely to hurl abuse.
