Electric Picnic 2013 (2 Viewers)

I made a playlist of non-headliner stuff for a friend who is going and by total fluke there is zero crossover with Nialler9's playlist, not even the same artists.

Mine is better OBVIOUSLY.

STRADBALLY ESTATE, CO.LAOIS

WithElectric Picnic fever reaching new heightsand only 3 days to go ‘til we open the gates of Stradbally Hallwe invite you to a sneak preview of the site to explore the winding trails throughout the grounds as we prepare for the arrival of our headline acts including Fatboy Slim, Bjork, Arctic Monkeys, Robert Plant presents Sensational Space Shifters, My Bloody Valentine, Ellie Golding and Disclosure.

Kicking off proceedings will be sequinned soul siren Bronagh Gallagher as she steps onto the grubby deck of the festival's illegitimate cousin, the SALTY DOG- a 40 tonne shipwreck offloaded into the woods at Stradbally -... A mid-morning spicy hot Oakheart rum from Bacardi shall complete the marriage of Beauty and the Beast off deck to set you on your merry way as you move on to Body and Soul.

Back again with its trademark twisting wonderland of bespoke stages, handpicked installations, quirky corners and hidden alcoves, BODY&SOUL is set to light up its place as the central creative beacon of Electric Picnic for the tenth year in a row. This year we take in the PEACE PAGODA presenting the classical and operatic side of pop-up performance programme by day, transforming into a bean bag filled sanctuary of live ambient-electronica by night, curated by Donal Dineen.

Prepare to be aMAZEd at our next stop ...!

Located outside the Body&Soul area, ERP’s Electrical Maze by Donnacha Cahill will challenge, educate and excite revellers at this year’s festival. The maze is a beacon of fun and inspiration, which ERP hope will motivate festival goers to recycle in a responsible manner. The maze, made comprising from 400 repurposed washing machines, is approximately 729 square foot and the equivalent weight of 301 Brian O’Driscolls!!

And as always the Picnic likes to bring you something new, and having entertained you, year after year as the muddy captain aboard the Salty Dog, Jerry Fish has finally been given his very own stage at the TRAILER PARK- The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow: a concoction of carnival sideshows, theatre and alternative musical extravagance, including intimate performances from very special guests Lisa Hannigan, Hot Sprockets, Mick Flannery, The Lost Brothers, Cathy Davey, Gavin James, the Freakles, The Gavin Glass Band, Colm Mac Iomaire, Naoise Roo and Fairie Moe’s motley crew of misfits that Jerry has cultivated during his sordid lifetime in showbiz and beyond. Jerry Fish featuring R.S.A.G will ring in the midnight hour each evening by the man with the ‘Together’ plan, Ryan Skelton and ‘Together Disco’

Prepare to be entertained, kick back and drink it all in with some ice cold Bacardi cocktails. Throughout the weekend, the BACARDÍ bartenders will be found in the Cocina (kitchen) at CASA BACARDÍ,giving festival goers take-away tips on how to make their own delicious BACARDÍ cocktails in their own Casa using every day kitchen utensils.

Go easy on the cocktails there’s still the main stage to visit where you will hear from Festival Republic promoter Melvin Benn and the man who spends all his time on stage at the Picnic – Liam McCarthy, after this we will take in a new Picnic feature – The Amnesty Wall.

Amnesty International is using its presence at this year’s festival to highlight the need for Egypt to act now to stop brutal sexual assaults on women protesters. Since the 2011 revolution in Egyptian artists have used graffiti to call for freedom, human rights and equality on the streets of Cairo, Alexandria and other major Egyptian cities. These images will provide the inspiration for artists to create a Graffiti wall in MINDFIELD this year whilst some of our country’s top streets artists will be painting a huge graffiti mural during Electric Picnic, in solidarity with women protesters in Egypt.

And now you have earned the right to put your feet up, rest and dine out, and no better person to dish up the Electric Picnic Festival Fare, than award winning Michelin star Chef Derry Clarke.

And if you don’t have to rush back to work…… Ireland’s most eclectic Music & Arts festival, wouldn’t be complete without the Arts Trail. A visually stimulating smorgasboard of innovative, intricate and immersive art, be prepared to marvel at the stunning sights on offer in every nook and cranny of Stradbally Hall Estate. You’ve already seen Donnacha Cahill’s ERP ELECTRIC MAZE you can also find hissecond piece THE ELECTRIC GRAMOPHONE which was commissioned for the Electric Picnic in 2012. It is Donnacha’s physical interpretation of the feel-good factor of the Electric Picnic. Other art at the Picnic include BOG BOLGS by JODI COYNE; Bog Bolgs are mischievous little bog creatures with long spindly limbs and a pensive demeanour looking to lead Picnicer astray. Also RED LOVES RAIN by Liosa, an art installation made up of 50 red umbrellas is suspended across a walkway. These beautiful pieces are installed just above 'jump height' for people using the path.

As part of Electric Picnic’s green ethos and in partnership withLeave No Trace Ireland we are delighted to announce the arrival of the first ever LEAVE NO TRACE Green Campsite at Electric Picnic 2013. This Leave No Trace Campsite, is a huge step for Electric Picnic in becoming a more sustainable and greener festival. When you sign up to the Leave No Trace campsite, you will receive a list of festival hints and tips and brilliant ideas to help you be the slickest picnicker around. On location, we will provide various bins and buckets for you to recycle aluminium and plastic as well as our compost heap for food waste. As a Leave No Trace camper, you are asked to commit to leaving nothing behind at the site - this includes your camping gear. And don’t forget you can recharge your batteries at the Vodafone Haven, near the main stage, and keep in contact with your festival friends, new and old!

Electric Picnic has issued a warning to festival goers about fake tickets circulating on a number of websites and social media.

Promoters said today “ We urge people not to take any chances by purchasing tickets being offered for sale on these sites . There are a huge amount of very convincing forgeries in circulation since the festival has sold out . Make no mistake the fake tickets will be detected on arrival at the festival and the holders will not be let into the festival grounds. Avoid disappointment, do not buy tickets from an unofficial sources’’.

It is very important to point out that no more official tickets will be released to purchase in advance of the festival. The festival is completely sold out. Don’t take any chances.

Ticket scalpers are an ongoing issue in the music industry, particularly in regards to festivals. Check out toutless.com

FRIDAY, 30th AUGUST – SUNDAY 1st SEPTEMBER

STRADBALLY ESTATE, CO.LAOIS

Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us

Ten years on! We’d love you to join with us and celebrate our 10th Electric Picnic. As you know the main ingredient for any great birthday party is cake. And wait for it - that’s what we have for every single one of the 35,000 Picnickers attending this weekend’s tenth birthday celebrations.

Each Picnicker will receive a special ticket once they go through the gates and the check-in, this ticket will entitle everyone to their very own birthday cake any time over the weekend. Present your ticket at the specially erected cake-stand next to Body&Soul and feast on yummy Picnic birthday cake.

But that’s not all! It wouldn’t be a birthday without presents. The lovely ladies from the local churches in Stradbally will be offering a lucky dip from a barrel containing some very special tickets. So what do you win if you draw one of the golden tickets….?

Ten lucky prizewinners will win a ticket for free entry with a friend to the next 10 Electric Picnics. It’s our way of saying thanks. Thanks for the love, thanks for the laughter and thanks for making this the best way to spend a weekend in Ireland.

Finally to top celebrations, we will be cutting a ten-tier birthday cake on the Main Stage on Friday night with each tier representing one year of the Picnic. The final icing on the cake comes shortly after with a ten minute firework display.

So make sure you join us at the main stage tomorrow night.

Regrettably Giorgio Moroder will not be able to go to the 10th Anniversary Picnic. He has had to pull out of this year’s festivities on advice from his medical team. We would like to wish him a speedy recovery.
