Cheap, decent sounding practice amps. (1 Viewer)

the Vox pathfinders get rave reviews on harmony central,a lot of blokes remove the LED clipping diodes for a warmer, natural sound

Have you a decent computer, Gary? Because if you have, and it can take it, you could just use Guitar Rig or something. Dunno what size your house is, but if it's anything like as 'cosy' as ours, any amp, at any volume is going to be a problem when there is a chizzler sleeping. I wasn't convinced by software amp sims, but Dudley kept getting great sounds out of Guitar Rig so I tried it and have been really impressed.

If you facncy an actual amp, you occasionally see Blackstar HT5s going for around €150. It's got valves, but it's not really a valve amp in the traditional sense (it's not a hybrid either though) and sounds really good at low volumes. Also, the headphone/direct out is excellent. I used it to record very successfully.
