Can anyone recommend a good one that also is a multi-region DVD player? At a good price?

Don't want to go down the PS3 route.

no, but you can get a multiregion dvd player for peanuts (cetrainly less than the price differential between a ps3 and a standalone bluray player) and the ps3 is a network-ready divx, photo, & music player too.

oh and i hear it plays games too.

they are ugly but its the best blu-ray player for the price. plus its updatable which has been a big problem for some of the others on the market

I've got one of these and it can be made region free (with an €89 hardware hack - i haven't hacked my yet). you can get them pre-hacked from that site too. as far as what's the best BD player to get, the PS3 will most likely always win as the firmware updates they can push out to those ensure they're always using the bleeding edge features, whereas a standalone like the BDP-S300 will hit a ceiling of what new-and-cool BD features can run on them. (like the Blu-ray live stuff, the s300 isn't networked)

I can count the amount of blu-ray movies worth buying on one hand. Spending €300 on a standalone player seems like a waste. Unless you're interested in paying up to 40 euro for classics like Hitch and Van Helsing.

Actually my last post came across a lot grumpier than I meant it to! Apologies!

Maybe a PS3 is the way to go. I just wanted to have some kind of all in one machine rather than a separate player for R1 DVD's and a blu-ray player.

Maybe one day....

Yeah I really wouldn't rush to blu-ray just yet. But if you are determined the PS3 is the best option.

I was looking to get a HD-DVD played (maybe the xbox one) because that is multi-region DVD and upscales. Also, HD discs are dirt cheap now. Can't find one anywhere though.

Not strictly true, the HD-DVD's are multi-region, regular DVD's are region locked. Well on the 360 player anyway.

Oh yeah it does, certainly looks better on my TV via VGA than the internal 360 DVD player. But you'll only be able to play region 2 DVD's on it.

I saw Spiderman on Blu-Ray. It looked incredible. That was on a €5000 tv though.
