Tinnitus (1 Viewer)

Yup, they're foam. Do these ones meld into your eye shape eventually? That was one thing I was worried about them, that they'd never quite fit. I really do need a pair of these..

Presume you meant ear yeah?:p
Nah they dont, but, their a really good fit,and have never once fallen out on me.
Only gripe is that I always find myself speaking way lower than without them at gigs, you can hear yourself far clearer so you presume others can too.

Heard those Elacin ones are deadly too

i had quite bad tinnitus for a year or two a couple of years ago, i figured it was there for good. it was really annoying, it wasnt just one high pitched frequency, there was loads of different ones and i could pass the time trying to distinguish one note from another and there'd by phasing type things happening (or what seemed like that). there was one particular gig in lazybird that i think did most of the damage. miraculously it went away then (i started being careful with earplugs at gigs, and even stopped going to gigs unless they threatened to be extra deadly because even with earplugs a gig would aggravate the noise for days). it didnt go away completely but its not bothersome anymore. hopefully it will stay that way

Have had bad tinnitus since I were a lad. 10 years or so now.
Just from too much rockin' out for any human body to take.

Anywho, got moulded Elacin's off Frank Cass about 2 years ago and
have worn them religiously since. The comforting ever-present old high pitched
squeal has decreased significantly. Had to go back a few months ago and get replacements cos I lost them, and I did way better on the hearing test after wearing them too.

Totally recommend them for anyone going to loads of gigs.
The filters in them are only deadly. I have the -15db ones.

Noticed my ears were a bit more fucked recently. Constant ringing and not being able to hear things very well etc etc. So I went and got a hearing test and was told that my hearing loss is really substantial and that I should give up going to gigs and playing in bands all together if I wanna preserve it at all. Don't think I'll be going that far though. I asked about earplugs also to see if they actually make a difference and apparently they don't really because a lot of the sound enters through the rest of your head. Probably gonna buy some earplugs soon though. Does it muffle the sound much though? Wore some foam ones at gigs before and the sound was just awful though I'd say they arent designed for the job to well really. Willing to spend a good bit of money on a new set!

Does anyone get a throbbing pain rather then ringing? I find that a lot worse than any ringing I get.

Yep I do, although its not pain really just really fast throbbing on the inside of my skull, on one side only. Its like thousand of tiny creatures beating drums inside my skull. Horrible horrible feeling, I cant sleep when I get it. I go for weeks without it happening then it comes back. Sometimes just thinking about it makes it happen. I hate it :mad:
Got it from flying long haul with a bad ear infection 2 years ago...

Oh and I also have the high pitched eeeeeeeeeeee too.
Last night I had both kinds at the same time.

Have you come across anything that makes it stop???

Ears have been ringing since around july/august I blame it on starting gigging/practicing loads in 4 bands around that time I keep denying that its tinnitus and wear foam earplugs all the time since then but I'm sick of buying em every week and need to take more serious action.

Moose where did you get that acupuncture and Donal where did you get them ear plugs! cheers.

Jesus fuck.
Wear Earplugs.
Wear Earplugs.
Wear Earplugs.

Oi, Mackle.
Wear Earplugs.
Wear Earplugs.
Wear Earplugs.
You goddamn lunatic.

McFly.
Wear Earplugs.
Wear Earplugs.
Wear Earplugs.

Once this shit is broken, there ain't no fixin' it.

One of the teachers at the temple bar music centre had it.
He told us he had to different pitches going 24/7.
One was a reall low pitch and the other a high whistle type sound.
Just thinking about the implications of it (I have mild insomnia as it is) freightened the bejayzus out of me and I have been very carefull in regard to loud music ever since.
On the plus side the guy did get used to it and it didnt effect him day to day very much.

Jeez, how many warnings do people need? GET EAR PLUGS PEOPLES.

I've had tinnitus since I was 12 or something, sometimes it got really bad, but mostly its bearable. For ages, I thought I had rubbish ears - too sensitive or something - because I thought other people weren't as suceptible to tinnitus than me, but that's bollocks. So I'd go to gigs and be scared about it being my 'last gig', the one that made the tinnitus so bad it never went.

Anyway, I got cheap-ass ear plugs/attenuators in America a few years ago. Hearos. They're not the best, but they take 'the fear' right away and don't really affect the sound. They definitely didn't handle a Sunn o))) gig, which is probably that 'sound enters the skull' thing. But for most things, they really protect the ears.

Luckily, when I got freaked out about tinnitus when I was 18, I got my hearing tested by some dude that was testing those soldiers who were suing for hearing loss. Luckily he said my hearing wasn't affected. But now I can't hear people talking in pubs when there's loud background noise. Weird.

Got it done in Derry, ask Mark where he goes.

I don't know who told you this but they were talking bollocks!
Ear plugs certainly do work, and depending on the severity of your tinnitus it can improve greatly if you stay away from loud noises(or wear earplugs while around them) and take care of your ears.

Depending on what type you get they need not muffle sound at all.
When I put mine in it's just like turning the volume down a few notches.

I honestly can't believe the stupidity on this thread.
Wear fucking earplugs people!!!
I've had tinnitus for over 10 years now, and I haven't been in a club/gig/music bar without earplugs since. When I first got it I got really freaked out and stopped going to gigs altogether for a year or so. Then a mate who also has it told me about ear plugs and I started going again. I still wouldn't go to Sunno))), My Bloody Valentine, Dino Jr, Mogwai or any group 'famous' for being super loud. It's just not worth it.
I've been to gigs in the USA, and it's amazing how many more people there wear earplugs. Here, you're lucky to see one or two around you wearing them. I brought a few spare sets to the Boredoms in the Village and gave them to my mates. One guy didn't put them in, and his ears were fucked for 2 weeks afterwards. Next time it could be permanent.
Next gig you go to/play, go into a chemist and pick up some foam plugs and wear them. You only get one set of ears, and once they're fucked that's it.
I've been lucky in that my hearing hasn't been affected, and the ringing isn't loud or annoying at all, but I know a couple of people with bad tinnitus or hearing loss, and it has really affected their quality of life.
Mackle, you're only 19 according to your profile. If your hearing is fucked in your teens, what will it be like in your '40s or '50s? Wise up dude. I thought the whole 'louder is better' thing was ridiculed enough by Spinal Tap, but apparently not.
Sorry for the rant, but in summation, WEAR EAR PLUGS!!!!!

I developed Tinnitus about 7 months ago. I hadn't been to any loud gigs or exposed to any loud noises. Not sure what brought it on. Possibly air travel?

I finally got to see an ear specialist a couple of weeks ago and had a hearing test just a couple of days ago. I've been given the all clear and was basically told my hearing was very good and that Tinnitus was just "one of those things".

Thankfully I can block it out, but there's no way I'd risk my ears at a gig now without earplugs.

I don't suppose the specialist you saw was Alex Blayney ??
That's who I saw, I had the hearing test done too and was told to just live with it basically, totally pointless....

Mine came from flying with a bad ear infection, the pain when the plane was landing was unreal, like my brain was going to explode....
