Philip Roth looks value at sevens. I might stick a monkey on him.

Surely Dylan is worth a punt at that price?

Wouldn't trust Ladbrokes.

Oops! Silly jane, you posted the list of who's to be next pope! Bono & Dougal Maguire are the same odds!

Murakami at 10/1??!! I mean, they are enjoyable books, but hardly worthy of the Nobel Prize.

I agree with most - Philip Roth seems good odds. I read he has a new book on the way soon. After Everyman last year, I'm looking forward to this new one.

I totally agree. Really surprised to see Murakami's name so high in the betting stakes. I've only read a couple of his books but they were so bland and bereft of style that I was curious as to why he IS rated so highly.
Roth's had a good run of great, big novels since American Pastoral & he's nearly dead (!) so the Swedish Academy don't wanna miss out on this one! Hmm so is Updike but his remit is basically WASPish malaise-hardly the stuff of a Nobel winner regardless of how well he describes it.

A lot of noises on lit-blogs for Carlos Fuentes though. What's his stuff like these days? Last one I read was 'Diana' which wasn't bad.
