Running? (3 Viewers)

Yeah, you're right, of course
But I stopped running every two miles while I drank
Should keep moving with the bottle.
I've forgiven myself :)

Ran 6 steady miles today in 46:46, and the last mile was the fastest
That's good for my confidence that I can get to where I need to get to

A nice (horrible) long run this weekend would be a huge boost.

I know this is terribly boring for everyone except me

this thread has become for you what the DIY guitar thread is for me.
go for it!!

Was not feeling it at all this weekend. At all.
Switched yesterday's run to today.

Did 8 miles in an hour, which is fine
Still feeling that I'm way off where I should be

Big picture - it's 387 days since I ran my first mile
I am doing now what I thought was more or less impossible last July
And what's true for me, can be true for anyone reading this

42 days til Berlin

Disaster of a day
Went out last night and stashed a sports drink on my route
Went out for 13 miles this morning
Quite hot out and I was very sweaty
Grabbed the drink at mile 9 and ran in to use a public jacks
My piss was dark brown/red, so I stopped. In case I was doing damage like.
Just dehydrated, I reckon, but it'd give you a fright.

Gutted not to finish the run - I know I had it in my legs - but couldn't risk it.

35 days til Berlin
Onwards

Ran a 20:35 5k at lunch today in the heat

Was supposed to be running slower, so this kinda counts as a fail, in a way.

32 days til Berlin

First long run since foot fracture healed

16 miles at 8:00 pace

Happy enough, but it was tough

Needed a lot of my running mantras to pull me through

Physio reckons I've a soft fracture in my foot, running is verboten 8(
How long did it take to diagnose? She, and the GP, said an x-ray wouldn't pick up, so I'm on a waiting list for an MRI. Foot will have prob fallen off by the time I get it...

Sounds right
X-ray didn't pick mine up

I hurt mine March 20th
X-ray was clear so I ran a marathon in quite a bit of pain on it
Physio couldn't help
Foot specialist put me in a 'boot' for a month
No progress
MRI was early June, results a few weeks later
Diagnosis was stress fracture, prescription rest
Didn't start running again til end of July

Very frustrating experience. And expensive.

eek...

Listen, man. I ran a marathon on mine in March when I probably shouldn't have
and then a 5K in June which was probably far too soon. So I got in my own way a little bit
You'll have better recovery if you keep it rested
Find exercises to keep your legs strong

this *is* private, still a waiting list
I was waiting about 6 weeks for a hospital CT scan recently. An MRI requested in July is happening in October, and that’s been outsourced to Alliance Medical in Smithfield, which is where you can get the €240 MRI

Aye, they're blaming it on covid. What's annoying is I was in Vincent's on Friday for an Xray on my thumb (falling apart every which way) and mentioned to the radiographer about my foot and how the GP and physio said an xray wouldn't pick it up. She was *outraged* and said of course they would have.

The X-ray guy told me from the very get-go "if this is a stress fracture, I won't be able to see it"

Also, the foot guy didn't want me on his list for an MRI, he fobbed me off a bit with the boot if I'm honest.
My impression is that he wanted the MRI slots for "real" problems - i.e. not weekend warrior guys that do this to themselves. My impression.
When I had a month in the boot, he relented.

The good news is that if it is a stress fracture, it will get better. Human bodies and bones are fucking amazing.

The hard part is the waiting. And for me, the loss of the free happy brain chemicals the running gave me.
It might be worth spending a month doing some real miles biking or seeing if there's somewhere you can swim a few times per week. I didn't feel like I was twaddling around waiting on bones to heal when I did these things.
This worked for me. ymmv

Good luck

Aye, it's mainly just annoying. All walking is giving me grief, even something simple like walking the dog. Also, annoying that I don't actually know what happened. My wife reminded me that one night on holidays we were walking and I just pulled up in agony for a minute, but I was just... walking.

I think the real problem is we weren't meant to live this long.

I was supposed to do this yesterday, but ended up having to do it this morning

First time breaking 20:00 on a 5k, so I am happy with that
Not completely confident that these apps are tracking 100% accurately, but I'll take it

Would love to run a 6:00 mile

Still not feeling great about my marathon goal - fly to Berlin in two weeks
But I did run a fast 5k last night after work - maybe this is my distance

Broke 6 minutes on the mile and two miles, which is cool
