broadly speaking, i work in pre-construction at the surveying/ground investigations stage, usually before commencement of works. there's the occasional interesting/picturesque/historical site but more often it's e.g. half-built retail parks, infill housing and brownfield stuff. never the same day twice, which is a plus.
