I’ve had to meet a load of new people in work today and lots of hand shaking all-round.
One man shook my hand so hard that it bent a silver ring I’m wearing, and there’s still marks on my fingers 2 hours later.
I don’t have a limp handshake, so this was a bit extreme.
It really fucking hurt.

Just got a panicked call from a colleague asking "There was two TV screens in that box wasn't there?"
Yes.

"Well, only one came back".
I could hear all kinds of shouting in the background.

Apparently, somehow, someone has stolen a 65" or 85" TV. I cannot understand how that might have happened. It would have taken some effort. I like my swag, but there's freebies, and there's theft. My colleagues for all their flaws are not that stupid.

I guess it's possible that we just forgot one. But that is also very unlikely.

I'm sure it's nothing, someone probably took the initiative without telling anyone and now the system has broken down.
But it's a big deal. And I'm not even working today. Stressing for free! And now you are too.
 
So, 08:00 tomorrow?

Nope, don't show up at 08:00, everything needs to be up and running by 08:00

Also, we'll all be working remotely. You're the only person onsite.

Also, officially, it's due to go on until 21:00.
So, not 17:00, like I was told then.

Hmm. Well, fine. I shall invoice appropriately.
 
Annual review time again. Once again forced to give someone a low rating because the fucking Bell Curve predetermined it

I'm so fed up. Need a change of career. The options are limited at my age.

Can anyone recommend a get rich quick crytpo investment?
 
an old colleague of mine once changed job, but stayed in the organisation. his old boss decided 'great, i'll give him the shit rating which i'd otherwise have to give to someone staying on the team'. he lost his bonus and it kicked off a load of performance monitoring and meetings with HR about his future; he'd not been given any warnings about performance in the year beforehand. it's a mess of a system.

Is this bell curve shit common? How many people are reporting to you? If it's less then 100 then applying a bell curve to the ratings is ... well, I recommend you get a statistician in to explain to your org how stupid this is

This 'bell curve' thing sounds like when the US army gives soldiers an ordinary discharge instead of an honorable one.
