I wish more people would discover the genius of dexys.

This year I've been catching up with a load of old rock bands like the sonics, rocket from the tombs, crime etc. And catching up on DOOM as well.

I didn't discover them this year (I first saw them about 3 years ago), but as Kirstie and Stacy said - the futureheads - probably the most played cd in our flat this year.

Oh yeah and I, like a lot of other people here it seems, only really 'got' GBV this year.

actually I only got them this year and all. I see a new thread happening - Gig o' the Year.

Waiting Room and Rollers/Sparkers albums.
Not a whole lot else has surprised me...

ok I second yer boredoms and I can't think of anything else right now. Tell me, what gigs did I enjoy this year?

Listened to the rollers/sparkers album a lot this year, but I didn't 'discover' them, in the Jackie hayden sense, this year - that news is 18 months old.

I knew of them but had never heard them until I got the album.
I was put off for ages by peoples descriptions of them until I heard a song and it turned out that all the descriptions were bollox!
People eh...!

Yeah, don't be put off by the 'weird' tag.

Black Eyes
Bush Tetras
Estel
Q and not U
Melvins (for the second time/properly)

I like what I've heard of the futureheads. Do they have just the one album?

I think they may be my last discovery of the year.

yeah, I think so. It's fabillis that album, also contains my favourite cover version of all time - Kate Bush's Hounds of Love done in a Sunderland accent.

Cool I'll have to check it out cheers.

Robot and the one with the line "if you work it out, tell us what you find" or something similar are the two songs I've heard.

Its Neu!/Kraftwerk people for the people who have`nt heard of em.
Er, actually only Michael Rother from Neu! (and an original member of Kraftwerk, way back when) is in there. The other two are Rodelius & Moebius from Cluster. And Brian Eno was more or less an on-again, off-again member as well.

But they're great, all right.

Paul

Hurrah! Now I have Robot in my head. That ought to cheer me up.

The best thing is our life span (i don't mind)
We last nigh on hundred years (i don't mind)
If that means we'll be together i don't mind
I have no mind, i have no mind
