Poison Idea - War All the Time LP (1987)
Poison Idea - Record Collectors are Pretentious Assholes LP (1984 reissue)
Poison - Sons of Evil LP (1984 demo reissue of German proto black/death metal)
Masonna - Vestal Spacy Ritual LP (2023 reissue of 90's Japanese noise CD on Alchemy)

The War All the Time LP was on the other Alchemy Records, the one from the SF Bay Area circa 1986-89 that released first Melvins, Neurosis LPs. It was run by painter Victor Hayden (RIP) who was a cousin of Beefheart and appeared on Trout Mask Replica under the name The Mascara Snake
Both Alchemy’s are good with me.

I’m still raging that I sold my LP of this. It was the Southern Lord reissue that had the second LP of rarities.
Horrified came out on double CD on Relapse about 20 years ago with those extra tracks AFAI remember.
Reminds me I need to get it on vinyl.
Both Alchemy’s are good with me.
Even in early 2000s 15 years after Alchemy Records from California shut down there was still loads of copies of their LPs going around and I often saw Gluey Porch Treatments LP (Melvins) in shops in Dublin.
Shows how much the status of vinyl has changed since.

Another Alchemy band was VIRULENCE, a sort of post HC era Black Flag sounding band. After hearing The Melvins they turned into FU MANCHU.

I was well aware of Hijokaidan's Alchemy Records since 1993 but hardly own anything on the label:

Anyone remember Japan Overseas mailorder?
I got a catalog off them in late 93 or early 94 and they had fantastic stuff - nearly all CDs.
Alchemy, Selfish Records (S.O.B. Gauze etc.) PSF label (Keiji Haino, High Rise etc.)
But I bought nothing because of the prices.

It was about ¥2500 (about $25) for a CD plus postage.
Dole in Ireland was about £60 a week at time.

It was only in 2010's that I started to see people in Europe selling Hijokaidan CDs on Alchemy for a relatively cheap €20.

In early 1994 I bought a couple of Japanese HC CDs off MCR UK (Mike Foster permanently moved to Japan in 1990's).
The £14 or £15 I paid then is still probably as much as I've paid for one CD inc. inflation and that was bargain prices.

The Japanese economy was at its peak then.

UK release. For years this was the only thing I owned by them. Junko does vocals somewhere on this and Merzbow plays drums on this but I can't pick out any percussion.

Beatles alternate takes, demos, outtakes etc.

A few things come across:
• hearing overly familiar songs in a slightly different way really reminds you why you loved them to begin with.
• Also gives insights into how much work goes into a song.
•Lennon, though eminently talented, seemed like a salty enough geezer.
•if they're not the greatest band ever, they're up there near the top of the celestial bandometer.
