(because I'm cool)

I listened to the first VOIVOD LP 'War and Pain' (1984) 5 or 6 times in the last few days.
it's my favourite metal LP ever.

listening to Alan Averill's podcast now. he used to come across as self parody when he was young in the mid 90's for taking himself way too seriously.
but he developed a sense of humour years ago.

I don't know him, but BACK IN THE DAY he'd come into the sound cellar with his flowing mane and his swishing coat and his Primordial demo and we'd all be "Oh there's Naihmass, from Primordial. They recorded that demo in "THE DEPTHS OF THE ABYSS", you know. It says so on the insert."

"Oh really? where's that?"

"Sutton, I think. Maybe Skerries."

Always seemed like a nice guy. Not too sure about the old politics though.

in 94 he sounded a bit silly in interviews in a harmless way.
he was called Alan Nemtheanga or something for a while.

the first PRIMORDIAL demo apparently sold 2000 copies.
he got the bands name out in way no one in the Irish metal scene had ever gotten remotely near.

I got bored of his podcast pretty quickly - he's sounds OK but nothing really incisive to say.
he was talking mostly about Covid in a December one I Iistened to.

For the last while I've been listening to nothing but "new to me" music. If someone mentions something online, instead of passing over it I look it top and give it a go. Also some of my old favs have been releasing new music so I'd give that a few more goes than other stuff.
It's hit and miss, more often a miss. A couple of recent hits, Zeal & Ardor and Hayley Williams oh and the new Todd La Toree sounds promising. Misses: new Accept, production-line metal.

Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
Fugazi - End Hits

The Fugazi one hasn't aged well and Selling England is better than I remembered but still a bit flat a lot of the time.

I listened to that Genesis album recently and I spent the whole time wishing I hadn’t. The two Fushitsusha albums are bangers though, I’m digging them out to listen to tomorrow.

PJ Harvey - is this desire? LP
Aoife Nessa Francis - land of no junction. CD
Sepultura - Beneath the remains LP.
Teenage fanclub - best of comp. CD

Mostly jazzy stuff today

Gary Burton - Seven Songs For Quartet And Chamber Orchestra
Stan Kenton - City of Glass
Robert Fripp - Exposure
Michèle Bokanowski - Rhapsodia / Battements solaires
Gary Burton & Chick Corea - Crystal Silence
Sam Rivers - Contrasts
Nijiumu - Era of Sad Wings
Michael Gibbs - Michael Gibbs

David Bowie in chronological order. I'm in the mid-80s which weirdly means I'm listening to a live soundtrack from the movie of the last Ziggy Stardust show. Soundtrack was released after Let's Dance.

Borbetomagus - Fish That Sparkling Bubble.
Great stuff, pretty catchy as squealing noise albums go.

The Dead C - Trapdoor Fucking Exit.
Quality rock'n'roll

Heather Leigh - Glory Days
I used to think she was a real chancer but now I think she's great. This one is not so pedal-steel heavy as is often the case, more variety (mainly synth). Very charming. One song is all about riding, the lyrics are "riding, riding, riding, riding"

Fennesz - Endless Summer
Heavily processed guitar stuff, glitchy but very melodic. I used to like this a lot, it was very of it's time in the early 2000s, kinda sounds a bit tired now, only listened to a few songs.

Keith Rowe & Burkhard Beins - Grain
Tabletop guitars and percussion. Pretty good
