What movie did you watch last night? (25 Viewers)

John Carter

I enjoyed it.
It's long, and jumps about a lot, I don't know what exactly the 3D was supposed to add (except to make Lynn Collins tits and thighs look fantastic)
but
Overall, it does exactly what it says on the tin (if you ignore the tin forgetting to mention the Mars bit)

Detachment
The latest slice of end of society, the kids are not all right porn from Tony Kaye

Detachment.jpg

If Tony Kaye is such a nutter how come he can assemble a cast like this?

Very stylish and assured
But has the emotional insight of a teenager

it has lots of ganged up kids
a teenage hooker
James Caan
Lucy Liu as an overwrought guidance counsellor
Christina Hendricks
A disconnected walking the streets at night Adrien Brody
and a big fat unhappy artistic girl

All painted with Kaye's large brush strokes.

The Awakening

Decent Turn of the Screw-esque chiller. Goes a bit sour towards the end. Rebecca Hall is a ride.

Carnage

The poster is the best thing about this. Entertaining but clunky. I imagine it works a lot better as a play. Jodie Foster's character is rotten. Kate Winslet is a ride.

Saw this inBlanch with the other night This has received some lukewarm reviews but i really enjoyed it. Some clever twists, good script and great acting. esp from Giovanni Ribisi - Wahlberg is good too.

Snowtown, true story about Australia's infamous body in the barrels serial killer. The most depressing movie out there, in fact I had to turn it off after 20 minutes, couldn't stomach anymore of it.

Saw The Other Side of Sleep in the IFI. Its an Irish-Dutch-Hungarian production. No sign of any clog dancing or Magyrs in it. Bout a girl who sleep walks, wakes up next to a corpse and shes not even a necrophile. Did she do it? Is there a serial killer about? Its set around Tullamore. Why is there only one well off family in town? Was the girl killed because she was a member of that family? Why are the rest of the Tullamorians culchie skangers?

Interesting film though, worth seeing. Offaly good.

Alphaville by Jean luc Godard. It had some great scenes in it, the overly dramatic overtones were pretty splendid and funny throughout.

I watched 'Tout Va Bien' just a few nights ago too. It was an interesting and perplexing one to watch, a little over-stretched at times but overall enjoyable.

Watched Once Upon In Anatolia the other night. Good stuff although moves at a very slow pace. One weird thing which I've noticed when watching world cinema in a cinema is people laughing at stuff which isn't, on the face of it, funny. You often get people tittering at cultural pecularities or rural scenarios. It's kinda distracting. Or maybe I'm just a dour cunt.

Watched The Descendants a couple of weeks ago. Really enjoyed it, although it's an entirely different beast to Sideways. Clooney is excellent in it.
