Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Very long, with some great performances, and some very surreal moments - in an almost down south Twin Peaks manner. Enjoyed it!

Best line ... "this place (Savannah) - it's like Gone With the Wind on Mescalin".

Lovely sunny day... so I went to see The Witch

Excellent and completely unnerving.

Sorry to say, I found this very disappointing. It was nicely atmospheric in places. As a period film it looked the part, it was well acted and the attention to detail was good, but as a horror film it wasn't anywhere near scary enough. Nothing more than mildly creepy. I quite liked the ending though.

I've thought about it a lot since I watched it. I was initially a bit underwhelmed but it's grown on me considerably since then. Yeah, good movie.

Two Movies in the last few days

Anomalisa
The latest from Charlie Kaufman. Clever and technically impressive stop motion animation, but it left me on such a downer afterwards. 2.5 Stars

Sing Street
The latest from John Carney. Good craic, nice performances. The music/ songs were very school-band - but that was the point I suppose. 3.5 Stars

Compliance. Film wasn't terrific, lost momentum a bit, but the story it's based on is fucking nuts. I question the intelligence of these people.

Saw three movies recently...

Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence was thoroughly enjoyable, well acted true story.

Hachi: A Dogs Tale was another true story based on a loyal Japanese dog starring Richard Gere and Joan Allen. Again this was another enjoyable little tearjerker of a movie. Didn't think I'd like it - but enjoy it I did
.

The third one was The Intern with Bobby De Niro which was over long , a bit schmaltzy and not my cuppa tea.
