kind of flukey - i was working in hodges figgis trying to pay off my debts and not succeeding terribly well (doing a masters in religious history != a great way to walk into a well paid job) when a friend of mine said the company she worked for was looking for writers, and that they didn't care whether you had any experience/training as long as you could write and had technical aptitude.
got the job, discovered that i was actually really good at the technical end of things, picked up some programming languages/tech skills, and, er, several jobs and eight years later, here i am.
and i'm still procrastinating....
