Water Charges (1 Viewer)

Is it? It used to be the Friday before Bank Holidays or just special occasions

I don't think I could handle all that fun

I can't say with total certainty, but that was my understanding. Although I tend to take the same precautions as 7 does and be sure to avoid Friday entirely with him

nearly 15,000 'going' to this and still two weeks to build the hype

Does anyone have a good explanation for why The Shinners are sidelined by this?

The hard left seem to have stolen their thunder somewhat by urging non-payment, something the Shinners won't do. Aside from that though, it seems from my (admittedly passing) understanding of it that it's very much a community/local thing so while the left parties are getting some traction with the issue, its generally non-party political.
I'm sure someone has a better explaination though.

something the Shinners won't do.

I guess that's what I'm trying to get at.
Is there some realpolitik reason for not calling for a boycott? For doing exactly what the Socialists are doing?

They'd be open to attack for not having a clue on the economy?
It would make them look more maverick when they want to appear more trustworthy?

The SF guy on the radio this morning just talked around it, it's clearly weak ground for them.

A bit of both probably, it's grand for the SWP etc to call for non-payment as they know theyll never be in government and have to deal with such a situation. The Shinners are looking good to get in within two cycles in which case they'll have to drop the rhetoric and get down to actually governing and balancing the books. Given that they plan to drop the water and property charges it should be an interesting period.

Was this the guy on So'R? He did well to point out that the Socialists will be nowhere to be seen when people are hauled before courts for non-payment. Or, more likely, they'll be only too visible but giving no concrete support.

Morning Ireland.

Sean O'Rourke is bad timing for me.
