“Women voters are electrified, and Sarah is someone who is truly in sync with the way real American women think," she told LifeNews.com right after the selection. "She is a reform-minded woman who will give all Americans, born and unborn, the authentic leadership they deserve.”

Can someone draw a picture of Sarah Palin leading an army of fetuses, and then they all go run and jump into choppers and shoot wolves from the sky?

Because what the unborn really need is good leadership.

I think it's an interesting pick - Palin was probably McCain's best option by virtue of not being a white male nobody likes (cf. Romney, Pawlenty). It shores up the fundamentalist wing - she's pro-creationism and pro-procreationism - and resurrects the story that McCain is crazy like a foxy maverick. On the other hand, it's a huge risk - she has no national profile and it's far from clear whether people will like her. As long as the Dems refrain from laughing at her voice and appearing sexist, and just point out that she represents a continuation of Bush's pandering to social conservatives and Big Oil, I think her positives as a candidate won't last longer than the current media hype.

And I definitely think the Cindy vs Sarah psychodrama could turn out to be the most entertaining part of the McCampaign. I expect an imminent MTV reality show, with analysis by the cast of the OC and sponsored by Miss Buffalo Chip.

I thought something similar but now I think it's horrifically stupid.

It completey scuppers an commander and chief type fromt the democrats were trying to put forward.

She will be royally destroyed in the vice presedential debates and if you are a old candidate in uncertain health a shaky no 2 is not the way to sell yourself.

This pretty much sums up what I would say if I could say anything except 'fuck shit cockfuck' right now:

Page design is blinding.

SOMEONE POST SOMETHING ALREADY, I AM DYIN' HERE.

First up, she's super anti-choice. The forced-pregnancy crowd is thrilled today! (She recently had her fifth child, who has Down's syndrome.)

Jesus. Terribly terribly constructed sentence.
I'm presuming the writer wasn't trying to imply what she seems!

The sad part is that she was ONLY chosen because she ticks certain boxes (like not being a middle-aged white male), and because she can be hauled out to counter Democratic accusations, which is sad. I think it's perfectly fine to give someone a chance because someone in that category has not before had a chance, but they also have to be up to the job. Geraldine Ferraro was up to the job. Hillary Clinton was up to the job. Barack Obama is up to the job. This is just a joke.

The other thing is that it says what McCain really thinks about women: that they're stupid enough to vote for someone just because she's a girl. Sure, there are some Hillary supporters who are still pissed off enough to use their vote like the assholes they are, but number one, most of them know that the VP is not the reason you vote for someone, and that two, it's not enough of a qualification just to have a vagina.

But McCain obviously thinks women are indeed that stupid. Based on an overemphasis on the fact that some of Hillary's supporters were fuckin' assholes.

Fuckin' Palin made her speech like she was accepting a crown, not a VP nomination.

Larry King is interviewing people who know her. Wow, what fascinating company she keeps.

Man, what a stupid choice. Smacks of desperation on McCain's part. I'm sure there were many other Republican women he could have chosen, women with a bit more experience and presence. This is just too damn obvious.

I know. This makes me feel like I'm compromising my feminist politics. But the body language between the two of them was just too much.

Oh yeah, and the other thing is that she's from a state with oil.

It also says something far worse: that McCain really doesn't give a shit about the country. I know that all candidates care about winning, but that's all he cares about. More than the fate of 300,000,000 people, not to mention foreign policy. He doesn't want a chance to lead his country, he just wants to win.

I also think there's a difference between making an effort to be inclusive and being emptily tokenistic. When you choose a woman who will bring a pro-woman perspective to governance, that's inclusive. When you choose a woman who has got where she is by doing men's dirty work, to do your anti-woman dirty work, that's worse than tokenistic: that's rotten.

I'm not saying she hasn't worked hard, just that she maybe doesn't recognise where her opportunities have come from, which is a kind of warped sexist thing they call 'the glass cliff'. It's a common enough phenomenon in which women are appointed/elected to positions at risky times, partly because women are seen as 'doers' and partly because it's easier to watch a woman fail and go, "HA ha, see, girls can't do it!" Many women rise to the challenge and end up dealing with some crazy stuff, and that's not to detract from their achievements. They usually choose bolshy, ballsy women who are chomping at the bit to get their hands dirty.

It's one thing when you're talking mayor of a town or an Alaskan who 'gets' Alaska to be governor. I have no doubt that she gets Alaska's unique needs and ways of doing shit, but this appointment is a total joke. McCain of all candidates may not live through his term, and there's no fucking way I want Sarah Palin as my president. And while he may get a few of those just-cause-she's-a-woman votes out of it, he may lose votes from his supporters who know that he's 72 and not the picture of health, and themselves do not believe she's ready for the Oval Office.

It was a choice that was two fingers to the Democrats and not a benefit to his own party or his vision for the country, and while I don't understand why people would vote for him in the first place, his supporters aren't all that fuckin' dumb. So he thinks women are stupid. He thinks Democrats are stupid, and he thinks his own supporters are too fucking dumb do see through this.

I think McCain thought he was being smart by trying to attract dissatisfied Clinton supporters. However, Sarah Palin has only been Governor since 2006 which will undermine his attempts to attack Obama's inexperience.

Got this from the MoveOn.org mailing list.

Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:
She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1

Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2

She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3

Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4

She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5

She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6

How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

This is information the American people need to see.

We also asked Alaska MoveOn members what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

So Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil. And she's dramatically inexperienced.

When the huge amount of sexist-male-McCain-voters realise that this political noob with boobs is
one hearty party away from being Commander-In-Chief they'll most likely abstain, thereby
saving the Universe thanks to their prejudices.
