I have heard it is. I don't know anyone who professes to be suffering from it and I don't mean to belittle horrendous experiences people have lived through from which they still suffer in some way.

It's just unclear to me how being reminded of awful things in your past is actually bad for you (if you don't suffer from an underlying condition like PTSD that it exacerbates) or for that matter, more fundamentally, if it is possible to live your life free of reminders of past trauma.

A woman recently started working in our office. Her son died a year or so ago and she told managers that she didn't want anyone around her talking about "death, christmas, or family". If she really can't cope with those around her talking about fundamental aspects of their lives then she shouldn't be in work.
