has anyone tried to 'prove' the parasitic nature of memes or the possibility of 'controling' the evolution of memes.

p.s. this is only an area that I have come across briefly in some design papers and conferences. no expert I.

my thesis is primarily looking at literature. I used some of these ideas coz i found them interesting and pertinent.

Richard Dawkins has written extensively about memes, generally making the fairly cynical proposition that memes are self serving, almost sentient, and not always of benefit to our intellectual evolution. sounds extreme.

If the ideas I've mentioned interest you then I highly recommend a book called consciousness explained by Daniel C. Dennett. It's deaderly so it is.
