Bad Books presents Bad Thoughts

The first in what will hopefully be a regular discussion group.

This week the discussion will centre around the recent anti bin tax demonstrations. Many anarchists in Dublin have not become involved in the blockading of trucks in residential areas; why is this? Is it because that such an issue is not seen as "sexy", whereas other issues such as anti war direct actions and reclaim the streets are? Or is it because it is tax is something some anarchists see as an extension of the state, so trying to reform it is taking their eyes off the prize?

Hopefully the discussion will also branch into the "lifestyle anarchism vs. social anarchism" debate. Are lifestyle anarchists ghettoising themselves? Are social anarchists too work-oriented?

Chekov Feeney from the Workers Solidarity Movement will be discussing why he thinks its important for anarchists of all stripes to get involved with the anti bin tax demonstrations.

Suggested background reading material: http://www.spunk.org/library/writers/bookchin/sp001512/

The discussion takes place this Wednesday October 15th at 7.30pm.

Please ring Keith on 086 3363743 or Bad Books on 087 6497340 for more information.

what is social anarchism and what is lifestyle anarchism, in layman's terms? i tried reading the link provided, but it's a bit too theoretical for me at this time of day.

is it that social anarchism is community-based and lifestyle anarchism is individually-based? or, put simply, bakunin-esque (social) vs. stirner-esque (individual) anarchism?

oh, yes, also: where is this due to happen? or do we sit at home and think about it at the appropriate time?
Its on in a private house, which the owners dont want the address on the internet so if you are interested in coming along please ring one of the numbers provided.

Lifestyle anarchism I suppose are vegans, punks, that end of things, whereas social anarchism is syndicalism, factories, worker-based ideology...

Hope some of you can make it.

this was very interestin'... hopefully it'll be a regular thing.
Well you just find more people with star trek related names and we'll see what we can do

It will be a regular thing, next week a discussion on anarchism and the media, should we try to get the media on side or is that pointless, should we have our own media.
Should be good, there will be people from indymedia and anarchomedia there.
Come along, same time same place.
