In fact, despite one or two digressions, pelviscostello has shown far more restraint and control than the majority of users on this thread who have been harrassing him simply because they do not agree with his views.

Actually, Cormcolash, I'd like to know how you can reconcile your claim that he is 'restrained' with the comparison he made between feminism and white power, with the accusation that feminists have made up inequalities -- essentially calling us liars.

You're arguing for a dangerous sort of relativism, I think. He hasn't been harassed because we disagree with his views. His views are hateful, angry and, if he weren't such an idiot, I'd consider him relatively socially dangerous.

I will respect the views of others who don't agree with me, but could you tell me how it is I should respect the views of someone when the view I'm meant to respect is that I don't deserve respect? How can any reasonable person be expected to accept as valid the views of someone who has just called you a liar?

Please tell answer this. And if you don't feel like reading my posts, then don't make responses based on what you want me to have said just so you can accuse me of being elitist or cliquey. It's the heart of the argument here, I think.

sprite boy is a good mate of mine, very much doubt he'd be bothered typing this much shite in thumped.

I'm just accusing anyone who signed up in December 2001, I expect to get it wrong at least 19 times, sorry sprite boy!

Maybe we just stage a mock white power rally, and then at the mock white power rally, we go, "PSYCH! It's a feminist sit-in!" and thus we will have smoked him out because he'll either flip out at us or he'll try to make a run for it, but I'll catch him in my giant net made out of mooncups.

In return, pelviscostello has been utterly harrassed, derided, insulted, and hounded to the extent that people are trying to guess his identity.

GODDAMMIT we want to know his other username not his identity, how many times have I gots to say this.
The reason for this is that he said he has been on thumped since 2001 under another username and this proves he is not a troll. Right now he is still just acting the troll and like idiots we're here feeding him

Re: Magical Girl Gig Sat 18th Aug - Das Wanderlust+Estel+Sweet Jane

I really don't agree with any of the above. Any gigs i've been to recently there's been as many women at the front as men, or at least a ratio that represents the general attendance at the gig. I stand at the front of gigs most of the time and it's not because i'm "socialised to be louder, more active, encouraged more to be dominant and in control", it's because i want to be able to see the band. Just because there's more men in a space doesn't make it a "male space". It's not like dudes stand around the front comparing muscles (unless it's a metal gig). And i've always found the bikini kill thing of getting all the boys to stand at the back ridiculous, why not just suggest more women come to the front, why "banish" the boys out of sight?

Anyways, i have no problems with ladyfest or gigs celebrating women or whatever, just this point's been bugging me since i read the thread.

i have no doubt you've seen that...i have been at some gigs lately where theres been an equal amount of women and its felt really good - more of it i say! :)

but in my experience they're the exception - but hopefully this will become the norm.
i do think that women on stage attracts more women in the crowd- do you think?
at leigh's electric fix gig tonight he's got stagger lee and sweet jane and i can imagine there'll be more girls at that gig than if he just had all male bands on.
thats my experience so far of gigs in dublin anyway - and i've been going to gigs here for the last 9 years.

with your point of standing at the front cos you want to see the band- i try to stand at the front too to see the band - thats what we go to gigs for usually- but because im aware of it- i do notice that 'usually' men take up the space at the front whislt the women hang back - and i think all of this happens unconsciously and thats why i think its to do with the different ways boys and girls are socialised.

i dont think lads find themselves up at the front out of any menace or anything macho or controlling- but i think they go up to the front because they 'want to see the band' and have the confidence to take up that space and not question it.

i dont think ALL women have the same confidence and even though they also want to see the band they tend to just hang back.
this can go for shyer/less confident men too.

i think the space at the front thing is more to do with what confidence the person has to be at the front- and because in my experience gigs tend to be mostly male they become more confident and comfortable in this space than women.
what do you think?

i dont feel im talking out of my arse here (my arse cant actually talk) sociological and body language research shows that males do tend to take up more physical space whilst females take up less - whether unconscioulsy or consciously.
i cant name any particular study off the top of my head but the research is out there and it amazed me.

In terms of how this thread has gone - i think it is a huge shame that a few posters became antagonistic towards others - on both sides of the discussion.
internet discussions - or any discussions in real life shouldnt get like that.

I hope the angry points of view expressed by these people haven't over shadowed some of the discussion in this thread which has actually raised interesting points on feminism, women in music, women at gigs, women in bands, ladyfests and magical girl.

I find it interesting how some people regard a promotion of women as reverse sexism whilst others see the same promotion as completely essential and a positive thing.

I obvioulsy feel that female spaces are still hugely important - and reading the majority of replies on this thread am happy that most women and men see it as vital too - until all spaces become a healthy mix...

As a reminder - creating a female space is about enjoyment and celebration and positive things - thats all.
women and men are cool - women's coolness is just invisible sometimes and thats when making a conscious effort to make it visible becomes necessary.

no anger, no sexism, no ghettoism, no man hating, no ill feeling - just supporting something amazing which sometimes doesnt get the support it deserves.

peace out man .|..|.|..|

hag do you fancy me?

To everyone else:

You may disagree with my views but there are independently minded people on this forum who do agree with me.

I think feminism is bullshit. Outmoded. I think there are no social injustices that exist in Ireland today that warrant feminism. That is to say the social injustices that plauge us today plauge us all irregardless of our sex.

These social injustices are not unique to women and they do not suffer more than men at the hands of it.

I believe, in Ireland, men and women are completely equal.

If you don't like it, and don't agree: I do not fucking care.

you know what pelvis, i doubt there is anyone out there who cares what you or your flatmate or your accountant or your boss (ooooh you have JOB!!! well done!!! quick get the medals out.)) think. now if you could just piss off and leave the rest of get on with it i for one would mighty grateful.

in other news: any cork dwellers who have the misfortune to be reading this thread... come to fred's tonight!! das wanderlust and estel!! its going to be fucking great!!!!

How come any time I try to do the same thing, I just get abuse? And then everyone says my posts are too long and they can't be bothered to read them?

Am I really such a fucking monster? Seriously. I'm curious.
