and proud

I see VG+ are selling the dualshock ps3 controllers for 33 euro. Also the entire Rock Band kit is only 113 euro.

is it a powered USB drive?
It is, and I think the power supply is the problem. It's always been a bit hit and miss. Plug it into my laptop and sometimes it won't recognise it, power it off and back on, then the laptop will see it.

So I have two choices - buy a new USB drive, or see if I can manually copy my save files across and download all the stuff from PSN again. And install all the game installs too. And download all the game updates. TITS.

can you not just borrow a USB drive from work?

You're a good man pete, no matter what the rest of the people here say about you. I might well take you up on that at some point!

So I borrowed a proper USB drive from work, and it worked a treat. Apart from it being very slow, it was pretty easy going. For once I shall give Sony credit for making it so easy to upgrade.

Of course I wouldn't have considered upgrading if Sony hadn't have allowed developers the option to make HDD installs mandatory....

Metal Gear Online beta is out next Thursday.

Metal Gear Online: Open Beta in Europe confirmed
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH announced Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta for Kojima Productions' online epic
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced its plans for a public beta program across Europe for its forthcoming Metal Gear Online title for PLAYSTATION®3. Konami will release Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta via the PlayStation Store from April 17th, with online tests running from April 21st through May 6th. An all-new Metal Gear title specifically designed as a multi-player online experience, Metal Gear Online will be released worldwide as part of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on June 12th.

The beta program will offer players a unique chance to sample the innovative multi-player experience of Metal Gear Online, which emphasizes cooperative team-based play. Those downloading the beta will be invited to explore two maps – “Blood Bath” and “Groznyi Grad” – each of which requires unique strategies in order to achieve victory.

Metal Gear Online will launch as part of Guns of the Patriots in June as a Starter Pack, comprising five unique stages: “Ambush Alley,” where trenches and sandbags litter an arena built for close and medium range combat; “Blood Bath,” a two-tier battle setting; and “Groznyi Grad,” the expansive Shagohod development complex from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater which features human catapults that propel players to different areas of the environment. Rounding out the five stage set are the dusty, Middle Eastern alleyways found in Guns of the Patriots entitled “Midtown Maelstrom,” and the rooftop settings of “Urban Ultimatum.” Konami is committed to the release of additional Expansion Packs to be released throughout the year.

Up to 16 people can play simultaneously, with game worlds created using Guns of the Patriots’s incredible 3D engine. Retaining the classic stealth combat gameplay of the Metal Gear series, players are dropped in a series of war zones wherein different challenges await. Five game modes await players on stages that span the globe and the history of MGS: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture and Base and Sneaking missions. Additional information on Metal Gear Online and the beta program can be found at www.konami-mgo.com.

Sony has kept its firmware launch promise and released version 2.30 of the PlayStation 3's system software this week.
The firmware enables the PS3 to support DTS-HD Master Audio, the console's second HD audio format.
The PS3 already supports Dolby’s TrueHD, a rival HD audio format. But expanding the console’s audio support to include DTS-HD Master Audio, which features ona number of upcoming Blu-ray releases, at least allows consumers to choose which HD format they like the sound of best.

DTS claims that DTS-HD Master Audio is capable of delivering audio that is "bit-for-bit identical to the studio master" at up to 24.5Mb/s on Blu-ray, with the audio encoded using 24-bit quantisation at 96kHz.
Firmware 2.30 also gives gamers access to the redesigned Sony PlayStation Store. The electronics giant said it reorganised the store due to customer demand for a better interface and easier navigation.
Details of how to download firmware 2.30 can be found here

You can download it now, but the servers don't go live till Monday apparently.

Konami have fucked it up royally by all accounts. The download needs an additional patch that keeps crashing. On top of that US user need to sign up for a konami ID on the worst webpage ever created.

Theres a lot of angry nerds in the US today. Thankfully for Konamis sake its only a beta.
