Just seen on the news there that Holles Street are far from happy over the leak, it also said the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill hasn't come into affect yet.

i thought michael d made point of signing it into law pretty much straight away.

It can be signed into law but not come into affect for a period of time after but I'm no expert on law so I'll stick with quoting RTE apparently quoting the Department of Health and the Irish Times adding a correction to the article since it's publication.

I'd also point to page 7 of the following pdf which states that "This Act shall come into operation on such day or days as the Minister may appoint by order or orders either generally or with reference to any particular purpose or provision and different days may be so appointed for different purposes or provisions."

from the back page of the irish times business supplement yesterday

The organisation appears to have run a deficit of about €185,000 over the course of the year when it would have been lobbying intensely against the legislation. The impact of the great national abortion debate last year on the coffers of the Life Institute is revealed in its latest set of financial statements which became available in the Companies Registration Office this week.
Pro Life Institute, the company behind the lobby group run by veteran anti-abortion campaigner Niamh Uí Bhriain, practically emptied its bank account over the course of the year to the end of last August, which was just weeks after the passing of the X case legislation.
Its cash balance shrank to just €304 from about €177,000 a year earlier.

So brave.

My perception is that as in the North they're more strongly identified as a Catholic party they don't necessarily want to be seen as opposing Catholic values (not just them, SDLP recently explicitly stated they were a pro-life party.) Although, pro-life groups say Doherty signed a pro-life pledge prior to the last election too.
