Personal PA for an old person? (1 Viewer)

Was asked about this in work yesterday. Someone's gran is in a home and a bit hard of hearing, has two hearing aids in. Once a week some people come in to play music for the old folks and she still has difficulty making them out when she's far away from them and I was asked about what might be done to help her out.

The best I could think of was some sort of microphone of the sort people might use for bootlegging concerts into a small mixer/amp with no speaker and then some over the ear headphones that she could comfortably use.

That a plausible solution or is there a more obvious one that I'm missing? If it is can anyone recommend appropriate mic/amp please?

There's no PA in the room.

Apparently "moving to a closer chair" is also out.

would a headphone amp suffice?? musch easier then lugging a PA about and its probably the same deal as the headphone socket on a PA. i've one of the ART ones and its the size of a ciggarette box.

Yeah something like that is what I was thinking of, but it leaves the question of an appropriate microphone still open doesn't it?

probably ideally would use a conference/installation mic (i think the samson d112 is one), but they typically need phantom power, possibly a battery powered stereo condenser off ebay and a cable to fit the mic into the headphone socket??

i know an old lad who had some sort of hearing aid with an external mic he could leave on the table when chatting to people. there was a wire that attached it to his in-ear hearing aid. perhaps some yoke like that might be useful. i'd ask a specialist.

Let her sit on the speaker. If she can't hear it, she might as well feel it. Might knock a few cobwebs off.

Either that or just give her your own mp3 player. She's hardly to know the difference?

Ahhh thats so sad . Reminds of this guy me and my Dad did a job for up the Dublin Mountains. He was mad in to reading but was going slowly blind. Too huge big rooms of the gaff where just filled up with books. Around the house where assorted magnifying glass gadgets. Tick tick tick tock. Nice man also.

get a speaker and some long speaker cable jam the speaker cable into the same holes of one of the original speakers on the amp

and then if the cable is long enough move the third speaker to the lady.....

piggybacking the signal

if thats impossible due to the connections at the back of the amp you might be able to stick the extra speaker cable into one of the original 2 speakers piggybacking the speaker not amp....... maybe
