I'm curious. Did you hear this band as a kid or as an adult? Drive was the only song of theirs I heard until I was in my twenties.
Never heard them as a kid, not even once! You'd come across them on a list of bands maybe but that was it. Their debut was a revelation to me aged about 22.

I believe this was because they were hated in England when they first toured there so they never really took off on this side of the atlantic except in retrospect

depends on what age you are, i guess. anyone old enough to remember the ethiopian famine (which led to band aid) was exposed to 'drive' because of the michael buerk reports.

Yeah, they played a video of starving people with Drive soundtracking it, during the LiveAid telecast.

I think the reason it was used was the "You can't go on, thinking nothing's wrong.." line

It was quite the showstopper at the time, reminding everyone what the heck was really going on.

Fernando Ricksen (1976 - 18 September 2019)
Dutch footballer died of motor neuron disease yesterday aged 43 in Scotland.
Best remembered for his time at Rangers (2000-06) he also won trophies with
Zenit St. Petersberg including being on the bench in their 2007 UEFA Cup final
win over 'Gers.
He won 12 caps for Holland, all while at Ibrox.
On and off the pitch Ricksen seemed like a troubled lad suffering from alcohol problems.

MND always brings to mind Celtic's great the late Jimmy Johnstone.
