Just listened to Australasia for the first time in while there. They such a great band but seems fuck all people are into them.Anyone here into them?

i wasn't too into australasia when i first got it but went back to it after a couple of months and loved it then. got it with a blast more stuff so didn't really give it a proper listen at first or something. don't they have a new album out/coming out?

i like them, brilliantly constructed songs. must pick up their new cd this weekend. kinda regreat not going over to see them on tour last year.

Jaysus, I thought it was some of the dullest crap I'd heard in ages. Same with Isis, just doesn't do anything for me. You know what is good though, The Beyond by Cult Of Luna. I got it along with a bunch of stuff by the likes of Khanate, Naked City, Neurosis, Isis, Boris etc., and out of all of them it's the one I keep going back to. It's got an old school feel to it and even though they do have the odd post-rock-esque interlude, it's far more subtle than the ramblings of Pelican or Isis. Must try to track down some more of their stuff...

cult of luna are quality live, much more powerfull than on cd. i emailed their booking agent about bringing them over for a gig, however 5,000euro guarentee is a way to much, and the reason they haven't played here.

Pelican are savage, actually a friend of mine told me that Oak are kinda like Pelican and Isis. If so you should check out the new Irish band The Skies Collide, They are fuckin deadly, and amazing live, real isis, early mogwai kinda vibe.

I only have their self-titled EP on Hydra Head and I kinda like it. It's maybe a bit sloppy (they don't seem to be as instrumentally tight as someone similar like Isis or Neurosis), but I don't mind that--it gives a nice, raw edge to the music.

However, tastes vary: I gave a copy to a person on this list (who shall remain nameless :)) who likes that type of music as well, and he found it really boring. Ah well.

Any suggestions as to what a good second Pelican purchase would be?

Paul

In my opinion that first ep is their best by far but australasia will do your ears no harm atall either, the new one (cant remember the name, damn soulseek) is great too but the direction has changed just a tad

I definitely caught that Pelican-y ambient vibe off you's when I saw you play... Great stuff though.
