never mentioned polls and i'd say there are none...i said 'people say' coz i've heard plenty of people site fortifying our influence and 'good-will' as a 'no-nonsense' reason to vote yes...i take it you have never heard anything of this on the air nor seen it in print which is what makes it impossible for you to discuss the point of holding a nations sovereign referendum to ransom with such an ethereal albeit important consideration.
.

my confusion resulted from you saying:

but it's one of the top reasons people say they'll vote yes

ei thought that you meant polls when you mentioned that it was one of the top reasons

i stand corrected

yeah 9.35
Lisbon Referendum 2009
A special one-hour edition focusing on some of the divisive issues surrounding the Lisbon Treaty and featuring a head-to-head debate between Declan Ganley and Michael O'Leary
The programme includes two separate debates between Mary Lou McDonald of Sinn Féin and Pat Cox, President of the International European Movement; and Micheál Martin, Minister for Foreign Affairs, with Socialist Party MEP Joe Higgins

Did she? She never really knocks it out of the park but if y'ask me she did ok...cox was more emphatic.

yea but in my view (at this stage) you can't really argue with the text when it's in black and white.

martin and higgins were both so so - too polite and nice to each other.

the ryanair and libertas lads were just as I expected - arrogant and a bit thick.

what did ya's make of gammy vs leery???

While I find Ganley a bit shady, the alarm bells go right off when Michael O'leary starts to champion a cause, because the only thing that guy cares about is profits for his company.

And this whole thing with Ireland's vetos on certain issues. The same fear of the big powers that is being used to persuade a yes vote this time will be used to make vetos null and void. We'll be afraid to disagree because of the consequences.

I'm still voting no.

y'know who we need to get the best out of these debates......

what drives me nuts about debates is thinking of a better answer and the person debating not/. probably its the same as who wants to be a millionaire or something, but every time leery was calling gammy a failed politician, all he had to say was 'are the guys who beat me successful or something??'

all in all there was a torrent of cheap shots throughout though. the little fuck up with repeated scene and awkward silence was good.

actually, i was just doing some wiki reading about o leary and gimlet, this bit in the history of ryanair about tax and so forth is enough to put me off him in general, specifically on the subject of tax

The unorthodox business model envisioned by O’Leary uses commissions from pay-per-view entertainment, onboard shopping, internet gaming, car hire and hotel bookings to eventually replace the revenue from selling airline seats. Consumers may someday “fly for free,” but airline executives already benefit from the bottom line boost provided by ancillary revenue. O’Leary’s radical idea catalyzed an industry-wide trend to coax more revenue from the profit-challenged airline business
