Actually do people use the DTO Journey planner?
http://www.dto-journeyplanner.ie/dtojp/jsp/content/start.do

I wonder if its accurate over longer distances? My current commute is nearlyt 25 mins and the journey planner makes it 29 or so...

I use the gmap pedometer.
DTO says my journey is about 8km, google say 11.5km. I'd trust google because you get to do your route from your exact starting point to your exact finishing point.
Also, it's easier to use gmaps if you're the sort of guy who wants to pick your own particular route (E.G. DTO insists I should go home via O'Connell st., but I know that the traffic there would slow me down loads).

reckon it would make a nice sturdy fixie. there was a guy talking about doing a build-yourself-a-fixie workshop in seomra spraoi sometime. if i see him i'll ask him when and if he's still doing it.

That'd be cool if it happened yeah. I'd defo be into the idea. Didn't someone mention doing a bike workshop there before?

yeah, there's been two or three i think. there's a bike parts swap shop on in seomra spraoi this saturday at around 4pm i think, if that interests you. the fixie guy will be there. good chance to ask people repair and other bike related questions too. loads of couriers i'd say too so loads of fixies present. you can induldge in some fixie porn.

Here, Sean, I am sure you are right about needing a new chain ring etc, but just so you know, you said that "some of the teeth are worn down to nubs", this might not actually be what it looks like.
Shimano, and a few people, purposely make one or two teeth on the chainwheel very small, or not there at all, this is to help the front mech change gear more smoothly.
You can normally tell you need a new chainring / crankset by seeing if the teeth are sharkfinned, (thats what we used to call it)

You can see below, see the way that it slopes gradually up, and then very steeply down like a shark fin?

Also notice the missing teeth, to help shifting.

Pity I cant help more. I wouldn't mind doing a bike maintenance session. Ah well.

I'm not in that video. I was there at the start for a second but then my gears slipped and everyone shot off ahead of me through a red light. Then later they laughed at me on the internet. I went home and listened to Purple Rain on repeat for days, crying and squeezing my arse boils.

I was so distraught that I nearly unrolled my legs of my pants for good.

i find the route planner built natively into google maps better, but it seems to only follow routes cars can drive.

ah bollix, no way. Where'd this happen?

In Cambridge, outside a pub where I was at an Asobi Seksu gig. Usually I take two locks when I'm going to leave my bike anywhere dubious, but yesterday I left the heavy D-lock at home. Felt fucking miserable on the walk home, thought every cyclist that passed me was riding mine. The amount of bike theft is almost the worst thing about living here, almost everyone I know has had one stolen at some point.

Great concert, though.
