Don't make me ask again, what are you guys getting me? I like ponies, fancy paper, knitting and bras.

Anyone doing anything awesome on Saturday?

Some reminders as to why we still need it here- (NWCI)

· Ireland has only a 13% representation of women in the Dáil (Parliament) a level of representation on par with that of Sub-Saharan Africa

· 30 years after the introduction of equal pay legislation there still exists a pay difference of 15% - women earn on average 15% less than men

· 1 in 5 Irish women are subject to physical, sexual or psychological abuse during their lifetime by a partner, husband, family member or acquaintance

· Abortion is illegal in Ireland except to save the life of the mother. Women have a right to travel to other countries for an abortion but 2 referenda in the last 10 years have tried to reverse these limited rights.

So contemporary Ireland is a puzzle and Ursula is going to help us figure out where/how the contemporary Irish woman fits in?

Is the answer Port Laoise?

yeah buzzo, how backward. racist! :p

ha ha. that was the first thing I thought.

I have recently had a bit of a lesson in cultural sensetivity when dealing with stuff like this. using latent racism to illicit a certain response. or something

who did you offend?

i didn't offend anyone yet.

i'm working with some universities over here on sustainable design resources for design students and there are issues within the globalisation/consumption etc. modules that have to be treated sensitively because of international students...

basically we can't be "look at this shit country and how shit they are. now children, we don't want to be like them now do we. heil hitler."

SEXIST

I copy and pasted it from one of the National Women's Council of Ireland's main pages, thought it was pretty sketchy, but posted it anyway coz I was a bit preoccupied. Shamer.
