How many instruments do you play? (1 Viewer)

If you can play a guitar and harmonica at the same time, like Bob Dylan or Neil Young, you're a genius. But make that extra bit of effort and strap some cymbals to your knees, suddenly people want to get the hell away from you.

there have been four lads camped outside musicmaker since 6pm this evening, for the sale tomorrow.

unfortunately, one thing herself had her eye on - a heavily discounted amp - was dead when we went in earlier to try it. probably wouldn't have been able to buy it anyway, i'd say it'll be snapped up first thing.

Bloody hell - the queue for the music maker sale stretches down past fallon and byrne, and about sixty foot down dame lane, with about an hour to go. God help the staff.

anyone know of any websites that explain music theory (e.g. what a bflat minor sus7 chord is) and why the notes are arranged the way they are? or a book which does the same?

websites are much cheaper though.

There's a few good chord finding apps.

Youtube has some interesting tutorials.

As for any good websites, I'm not really aware of any. There must be some though. I find video tutorials more effective. Wikipedia isn't bad, although rather unstructured. I think there's a couple of wiki-books which may be of use.

i have jambox, but i'd like to understand the underlying theory about what a seventh is or why certain chords go together. makes learning them a bit easier.

there's a lesson in here somewhere

its not that complicated.
do - re - mi - fa - so - la - ti - do
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

the average garden cariety chord is

1 -3 - 5 or
do - mi - so

just add in ti(7) and you've got a maj7.

if the 7 is written without the 'maj' bit then its generally a semitone (or fret in english) lower. most 7's that are used are the semitone lower one.

'resolution' is the reason chords work together. same as in that thread about adele.

never get too into theory though. i know this stuff because my students ask me. but i also wasted three months trying to resolve a song in 6ths and semitones.
