Green and Blacks Chocolate Bars (2 Viewers)

Few months ago my vegan friend introduced me to them. I've never looked back. The mint one is the best by far. Though its so nice you just have to keep eating it more and more when its just sitting there.

who are those indian dudes that whilst walk brushing the ground so they won't kill anything underfoot?

there are the dudesss

I think the reason they don't market them as vegan is because they are handled in a factory with eggs and milk...

That would be what I understand...there are levels of veganism, but they cannot claim to be irrefutably vegan without the guarantee that the chocolate never came from anything that could at one time have been accociated with an animal.

Green and Black's Mint is the new Fruit Shorties. I just devoured one between last night and tonight.
Get. in. ma. belly.

The ones I listed are vegan. Cherry, Mint, plain dark and Maya Gold. That whole handling in a factory buzz.... would that not imply that strict vegans can only live with other vegans because of shared utensils and shit?

it all comes down to ones own personal decision i guess.

i mean when you really really think about it you can end up thinking "i'm not gonna play fiddle or piano anymore because there is horsehair on the bow and ivory on the keys". mentalz.

I used to love reading about all those mad strict vegan families that live in super rural ireland in the irish vegetarian magazine. they'd scoff at the idea of eating green and blacks!

Also, they make the awesomest hot chocolate. Amazing warming your gulliver in the winter or making your chocolate mojitos oh so drinkable in summer.

hang on, i missed this - WHAT IS A CHOCOLATE MOJITO AND HOW DO I GET ONE?

this is important information.

Simmer buckets and buckets of Green & Blacks hot chocolate powder (this summer I'll be trying the Maya Gold shit) with demerera sugar and shed loads of fresh mint and water to make a chocolate minty syrup. Get amazing rum. Put in glass with lots of ice. Pour over some chocolate syrup. Lash in some fresh mint. Drink like a winner.

oh my god, that sounds astonishingly good, thankyou.

i see a plan for the summer. a plan involving my back garden, and this beverage.

From the marketing dudess at Green & Blacks:

Thank you for contacting us with your challenging and relevant question.
I am glad that you take the time to find out more about the food that
you eat. In England all of our non dairy bars do have 'this bar is
suitable for Vegetarian and Vegans' but this is an area that G&B’s are
constantly reviewing according to legislation changes, analysis of our
bars and also due to feedback from our customers on what would help them
to make better informed choices on our products. I would like to try to
explain G&B’s labelling policy as to a why and how we justify this.

Firstly the Vegan statement on our dark bars was historically placed on
our labels in reference to the fact that no ingredients derived from
animal origin are used in the bars. Changes in labelling are forcing
the whole food industry to examine their labels more closely. This
summer, best practice guidelines are due to be published by the Food
Standards Agency detailing Vegan and Vegetarian labelling. Within this,
the Vegan Society has requested that a maximum of 1 part in 10,000 of
animal origin ingredients can be present in a Vegan Food due to cross
contamination. G&B’s have for sometime been testing our dark bars for
the presence of lactose (sugar from milk) and casein (protein from milk)
and building up a profile of carry over. From this information we have
been able to monitor and verify our cleaning procedures and change over
systems between bars. We are confident that our procedures are robust
but there is a risk of cross contamination.

You are able to see the suitability of our products under the ‘What we
make’ section on the website – www.greenandblacks.com

Once again, thank you for contacting us.

Yours sincerely
