Bacardi B-Live is back with the second installment of their infamous Bank Holiday hoedowns. This is their third year of Bacardi sessions at PoD with each gig firmly etched in to the good-time memory bank of all who attended. Heading up the Pod is Dexter, ex-Avalanches and over in Crawdaddy we have the amazing Tortured Soul playing live with the indelible DJ Mujava supporting.
As always the good people of Bacardi will be on hand showing how mixing skills aren't just confined to those on the decks with the Bacardi B-Live bartenders on hand to demonstrate their flair by serving up the latest and most refreshing cocktails. Taste a classic such as Bacardi, Coke and fresh lime or sip Ireland's favourite festival cocktail, the legendary Mojito. Bacardi B-Live adds a legendary dash of vibrant Latin spirit to create a mouth-watering cocktail of fluid beats, dancing feet and the best rum in town.
Boasting an eclectic mix of cutting-edge international artists and local talent on bank holidays over the last two years, Bacardi B-Live has hosted some of the hottest contemporary acts in Dublin for the celebrations: Hot Chip, Cassius, Sneaky Soundsystem, Norman Jay, Tony Allen, Bonde DoRole, Mr Scruff, Bugz in the Attic, Claude Von Stroke, A-Trak, Stereo MCs and The Presets.

Dexter
Dexter has been djing for 19 years collecting hip hop records and everything loosely related to hip hop. His latest digs is krump music which is bringing back the “raw as fuck” sound to hip hop, drums and basslines, sharing a power struggle to suck air out the earth, whipping the krumpers into a battle of survival. His complex sets incorporate krump, dubstep, future hip hop, soul, south-american dancefloor, ragga jungle, dance hall or if the party is right, his classic mash-up sets made famous through the unforgettable and still talked about sets from the Meredith music festival, The Prince Bandroom and the infamous St Kilda Bowling Club sessions. His skills as a DJ with a great ear for samples also played no small part in the success of one of the greatest collections of samples that formed an astounding album in The Avalanches ‘Since I Left You’.
With various industry and competition achievements ranging from MTV (Best Video), ARIA awards (inc Best Single, Album of the Year), 4 Australian DMC tiltes, including 2nd place World DMC 2000, a couple of DMA ‘Turntablist of the Year’ gongs and all that polished hoo-ha he continues to take risks by pushing new ideas and underground music to evolve, unafraid of current music trends and how he fits and doesn’t fit into them. Now for him krump music, dub step, future hiphop & soul produced from the likes of Madlib, Harmonic 313, Flying Lotus and young cats like Rustie and Hudson Mohawke are on high rotation in his sets making crowds again wonder how and why? He has gone back to the rawness of the underground in a time where throw away music is rife.
Tortured Soul
In the space where electronica and live music collide and the boundaries between current and classic dance music blur, you'll find Tortured Soul. It's a new concept in the world of house music: no DJ's, no loops, no sequencers...Tortured Soul performs completely live. The instrumentation is simple and organic - drums, electric bass, vintage keys, and vocals - but the sound is thick with layers of heartfelt soul, danceable grooves, and infectious hooks. On stage and in the studio, Tortured Soul blends modern pop and dance music sensibilities with American R&B to create a sound evocative of Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, and St. Germain.
Comprised of three members, Tortured Soul was originally conceived in May 2001 by drummer, singer, and songwriter John-Christian Urich. The first Tortured Soul single for Central Park Recordings was the now-classic house track "I Might Do Something Wrong" re-mixed by Osunlade. The track saw immediate and sustained success, playing regularly at New York's legendary Body & Soul party and landing TS a secure place in the record crates of thousands of DJ's worldwide. After a Tortured Soul collaboration with Alistair Colling, keyboardist Ethan White and bassist JKriv (Jason Kriveloff) joined Urich to create the eminently catchy and heartfelt song "Fall In Love," co-produced by DJ Spinna. By their fourth single, "How's Your Life," Tortured Soul's intuitive musical rapport was fully realized, defining a chunky soul-house sound with haunting and inspiring vocals.Tortured Soul takes the dynamism of modern pop music and dance culture and tempers it with experienced musicianship to create their signature sound: energetic, infectious, live soulful house.
DJ Mujava
DJ Mujava’s real name is Elvis Maswanganyi, he’s 21 and hails from a Pretorian township called Attridgeville. He got his break when taxi drivers - who had heard him play on community radio and act as independent grassroots music distributors in South Africa’s urban townships - started spreading his sound in their cab stereos and selling CDs they had acquired from visits to his house directly to their customers accross Pretoria. His popularity grew and he eventually signed with a well known South African dance music label. Up until now however, he’s not released anything outside the country. DJ Mujava’s formula on ‘Township Funk’s is simple. It’s tough, dark, African dance music from the industrial city of Pretoria, South Africa. It’s perhaps the most infectious dance record you’ll hear this year, echoing the early Warp sound of LFO or the Forgemasters in an uncanny way, almost 20 years on, across continents.

An Irish DMC champion whose sets are so good, sometimes people forget to dance. He doesn’t just mix one tune into another, he rips four or five apart and puts them back together whatever way he feels like all the while making it look easy. Prepare to be astounded.
Disco Brasil
Having previously supported Bondo do Role and the Stereo MC's at the Pod and wowing with their unique fusion of Electro-Samba, 70s Funk, Tropicalia, Batucada, Forro, Reggae, and Baile-Funk, expect a flying-kick start to the evenings proceedings.
Downtown Sounds DJ’s
The music policy at Downtown is very simple - music with funk and feeling from whatever genre - if it's got a groove to make you move, it goes in their bag. This policy has led to some of Downtown DJ’s nabbing high profile support slots to the likes of George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars, Aim, Metro Area and DJ Cosmo, Sneaky Sondsystem and is set to lead to some serious disco dancing……
