General Election 2024 (2 Viewers)

Are Green still the most progressive party when it comes to the enviroment? They seem really focused on social issues the last few years, more than anything else.
Friends of the Earth actually rated Labour (and SD) higher than Green on environmental policies for this election. I'm still gonna vote Green No. 1 cos as @ann post points out they've demonstrated that they can actually deliver shit, but Labour and SD will be getting 2 and 3

All the people I give high preference votes to have never got elected. Same this time.
Actually, sorry I got this wrong.
Seamus Hayes from Clonmel (46 miles from me) got my #1 vote three times when Tipperary was one constituency.
He's a solid old school independent leftist. I regularly see him at Palestine events (inc. Dublin) and anti racism events in North Tipp.
Healy got about 80% of the Sinn Fein transfers when Seamie Morris from Nenagh was eliminated two times and was elected on the next count.

Healy lost his seat to Martin Browne (SF) last time. This time Tipp is two separate constituencies again.

Just done, Greens>Soc Dems>PBP>Labour, then muddling the rest to get the NP and Alan Shatter down to the end. 15 candidates, jaysis.
Labour are scoring better climate wise in their manifesto, but aye, it's just words. What has to matter is action, greens went into this last coalition knowing well the prop up party would get eviscerated in the next election, they always do, but with so many green TDs and the potential to get meaningful change through, they went for it.
As a result I imagine they'll return 2, maybe 3 TDs tomorrow, but they always knew this would be the case. I think it was worth it, the message about climate has always been getting the public on board, and that's happening.

Lab/GP/SD/PBP and then a independent candidate who we only found out late enough is a bit of a sound chap.
As mentioned, I'd usually vote GP first but the labour candidate I know on and off for a couple of decades. He used to be student welfare officer in UCD. Taubstumm would know him too almost certainly.

My polling station was busy enough at 10, which was surprising.
Ivana Bacik got no1 as I think she has a shot of making Labour a decent party and then SD and Greens.
I think I got to about 12 on the sheet.

Catherine Murphy was my long time TD. I only copped yesterday that they're running an official SD candidate, a local councillor to me, and there's a continuity Soc Dem candidate, a councillor in Naas, who is running, obviously wanted a crack at it and didn't get the nomination so he resigned from the party.

"The first item on the agenda is The Split."

Just back.

Ended up giving a 12th preference.

Centre Party(Renua), Aontu and the far right got no preference.

Every vaguely left wing party or ind got a preference before the big 2.
I voted to the end. Mainly so I could have the quandary of whether to give Gavin pepper or the national party lad last place.

I usually wait until 8:30 or 9 in the evening to go and vote.
There's only a few people there. In and done in a few minutes.
TBH I'm never all that excited to vote for anyone, but I pretty much always go.
I'll vote in my usual irrational way, not voting for certain types due to my petty grudges & dislikes of what they represent....in my mind.

Don't worry i gave that dickhead with the dog a#1 in your absence.

I made it to possibly 12ish.

Doherty/ Pringle are useful, i suspect the green lady has no chance in Donegal but sure look. Pbp had imported a candidate possibly just for profiling long term.

Donegal's wants/needs axis is very out of kilter in that when a huge slice of the pie is tourism, you'd want a green to prolong that rather than a few mid teer yes men enjoying the food in Dublin
