Exit Stage Left: Gigs You Walked Out From (1 Viewer)

As mentioned in the earlier thread. Mercury Rev in the olympia.
Technically Volbeat because I left after Baroness.
Oh just remembered, U2 in the RDS in 94, zooropa tour. I never liked U2 but for some reason decided to go to that to get seeing U2 over and done with. During their "unplugged set in the middle of the crowd bit" I said fuck this shit and went home.
Also kind of Metallica in slane. We knew it was winding up so just got the fuck out. We were in the car as the fireworks were going off. Same thing for AC/DC in croker this summer.

I did the same at that Marley Park gig, except I left and went to the pub. Some band who used to be mocked mercilessly on thumped played before Sonic Youth. I wasn't going to go to that, it was expensive to see Sonic Youth play a support set in a field but a friend had Thurston’s email address and shamelessly asked if four of us could go on the guest list and it worked! Kim played trumpet on PCH

Funnily enough, I also have Thurston’s email address. But I’ve never used it.

Lee Ranaldo gave me his card once (remember when people had them?). Address, phone number, email. Was so tempted to knock in on him when, years later, I was wandering around his part of Manhattan.

Yngwie malmsteen in the Olympia. I went with a friend who is more into the shred stuff than me. I still like some of it.....but he was too loud, sloppy. He was kicking plectrums into the crowd & being the general asshole that he is. 6 or 7 songs was enough.

there was a very weird gig in marlay park in 2005 or so, where sonic youth supported the chemical brothers. place was barely half full, it was on a weekday. sonic youth came on at probably 6pm or so, played a decent enough set, then I left. I cycled to and from the gig, I remember being home by a bit after 8pm and thinking that it was a strange feeling to have just seen sonic youth and also still have a whole evening ahead of me. I think I might have made a dinner and watched a movie.
I was also there, Sonic Youth were great and I stayed for the Chemical Brothers who were good fun.

I also went for free, not because I have Thurston’s email but because Road Records were sound and gave me a couple of tickets.

I’ve seen RHCP three times and hated them each time. I left during the second song the last time, went to Slane to see Queens of the Stone Age and PJ Harvey. Was back on O’Connell St in Eddie Rockets by 10, magic.
God damn bouncers wouldnt let us get into "pit" for PJ even tho there was 50 ppl in it.
Also joined the "walked out of RHCP" club after a few songs.

I’ve got a few. Easy target first, but the Thrills in what is now Opium. It was past their heyday and I went because I half knew the lads supporting. The crowd were straight out of a bank managers meeting and Conor Deasy had a hairy chest and not great vocals. Left after about the 10th ‘ooohh!’ so maybe by song 2.

The Ambience Affair had a gig on their Facebook listings in North Great George’s St. Which was only around the corner from our apartment. Very strange place for a gig, but on the day we headed around for it. At the door we got pure disgusted looks for trying to get in, this was sold out weeks ago blah blah blah. Very much ‘who do you think you are vibes’ from a pair of cunts. Turns out it was a Nighthawks night. Some monthly arts collective pish. Anyway, we were fine about not getting in, but they made a big deal of giving us a ticket so in we went, in a bad mood already. The pricky 2007 dublin vibes inside. Fuck me. Everyone sitting cross legged with a wine glass. We sat through a preppy singer songwriter called EleventyFour who had a song that went “I’ve got (can’t remember lyric) friends, I’ve got (can’t remember lyric) friends, I’ve got…lets me up for cocktails friends”. I had pure hatred for them. Then a poet got up and started talking about his son Casper. That was that, we left. And once again got the third degree about trying to leave “YOU WONT GET BACK IN”.

Then who’s walking up the street as we head home but the ambience affair. Story.

Left the War of the Worlds in the Point because it was absolutely fucking naff.

Not my story, but my wife and pals left a Frames gig in Marley Park early because they just went for Supergrass. They went on the rip in Whelans after and Paddy Casey striked up a conversation with her at the bar. When she/or friend said they were at Marley park but left after Supergrass he just turned his back on them without another word. Ha.

ha, deadly.

I love the Ambience Affair. Glad you didn't walk out on him.

I was at that Marlay park gig too. I just got laid off from my job a few weeks before and had a redundancy. I spend shitloads of money on gigs that summer. Loads of shite like the frames too. They were brutal. I think BellX1 supported too and they were boring as hell. Supergrass were good but it was the early slot and no one was paying attention. Pricks.

That Nighthawks story reminded me of another shit gig situation. A mate of mine texted me one day to say he had free tickets to go see The Rags in Whelans and would I go. He was mates with a lad from The Chapters who were support.

Anyway it turned out that thousands of free tickets had been given out. Like way more than could fit in Whelans and after a while they stopped letting in people with tickets. Including us. We ended up just going to the bar and listening through the door. It sounded shite.

I saw both the Rags and the Chapters subsequent to that and hated both of them. And that Anderson lad who had that solo album after, but to be fair had a good video of himself walking around Finglas selling it door to door.

I also left during Chilli Peppers gig because they were terrible. I only went because Rollins Band was opening. They were great. Stayed for a few songs of Chilli Peppers, who I wasn't a fan of and left.

Rollins had done a spoken word gig in the Bag got the day before I think. Went to that,it was great, although he told the story of how his friend Joe Cole was shot in front of him not long before. It was a teary one.
I think this was 92 or so.
Went to both of those. The Baggot thing was great, although not a barrel of laughs. The RHCP fellas were there and were surprisingly short. Do you remember the Family Stand, who played before Rollins Band the night after? They were great skit, I thought.

@chris d I was the same for The Frames in Marley Park, only went to see Supergrass and left after they played

Mercury Rev, spoke about it on the Gigs of your life thread. Saw them twice on the Deserter's Songs tour 1st one was amazing. 2nd was crap left early.

A De la Soul gig in London travelled over to it, was really ill but because I travelled over I thought I should go. But wasn't up for it.

Smashing Pumpkins in the RDS 2008 was just shite.

Moby in The Point 2002 I think, I had been working nights was really tired lived around the corner went home to bed.

Don't remember family stand.

At the baggot awe ended up sitting on the front seats. Just before Rollins came on the chilli peppers came in and sat on the floor on front of us

This was a good album that I haven’t listened to in about 25 years.
