it's been suggested to me that they wanted him to step aside to give mary lou a constituency for the next general election, and he told them to get fucked.
Yup. Nicky Kehoe did likewise after he nearly took a seat in 2002 and was gazumped by the leadership in favour of Mary Lou. She then managed to get 1,000 votes less than Kehoe and finish sixth. I imagine the local organisation does not have much love for her.
 
Clare Daly of The Socialist Party is the most popular local counsellor in Swords. Her 1st preference votes were nearly three times that of any of the others elected. There was a pretty big vote for the Labour Party too. I didn't know Swords was so red. Must be the airport union workers or what have you.
