IMO DJing, when done well, should be like curration, an attempt to make something whole out of different pieces of art. The best DJs should be able to do this on the fly and react to what is required in the moment. Hence, you get people like Peter Hook pretending to do this. He's still DJing, but just doing it badly.
I don't consider triggering your own music off a laptop as playing 'live', for better or for worse it's just DJing your music.
