Arsenal Holdings plc (the "Company") announces that David Dein has left

Arsenal Football Club and has ceased to be a director of the Company.

Peter Hill-Wood, Chairman of the Company, would like to express his gratitude

for the many years of loyal service given by David Dein to Arsenal Football

Club and regrets that irreconcilable differences between Mr. Dein and the rest

of the board have necessitated a parting of the ways.

In light of recent speculation as to the ownership of the Company, the

remaining Board members (together, the owners of 45.45% of the issued share

capital of the Company) would like to reassure the shareholders, employees and

fans of Arsenal Football Club that they remain long-term holders of their

interests in the Company.

To this effect, they have entered into an agreement not to dispose of their

interests in the Company for at least one year and have confirmed that they

intend to retain their interests on the expiration of this period.

Arsenal Holdings Plc.

this is bad news

he always struck me as a toad...

article in today's guardian about how the old arsenal shareholders are against selling the club to foreign owners. dein was for it. they are more of the opinion that the club doesn't need the major investment that chelsea or liverpool did, now that the stadium has been built.

the only conceivable reason arsenal would want to sell up is to increase the transfer kitty. in another year or two that'll probably be possible anyway when the profit from the stadium starts coming in. of course, dein probably also had his eye on the £36m he'd make in selling his shares...

dein is the man who made arsenal what they were. im still against the takeover, but dein leaving is a massive lots and puts a lot of doubt over wengers future of the club...

Clubs always being well run....the work that went into that stadium and opened on time and no over run of costs is one thing that springs to mind....they spent a few years too paving the way to get permission and convincing the residents etc
