Question : Now that Robert Sheehan, Jonathan O'Donoghue and John Mitchell have pleaded guilty to a petrol bomb attack on Sheila Murray's car, badly injuring and disfuguring their two children in the process, what is a fitting punishment ? Can they be rehabilitated ? What hope for them is there ?Do they even deserve to live ? What does punishment solve ? Not sure what you do in this situation 'cos it's so fucking horrrible.

Order reparations from all the politicians who've had responsibility for the area since it was first built on?

So you're saying that this situation is the predictable result of a social timebomb that was down to the lack of civic responsibility on behalf of local politicans ? Or are we just dealing with 3 socio or psychopathic individuals who should be locked away ?

Nah, really I'm just talking shite.
There's something wrong when two guys can firebomb a car in the middle of the day because the owner wouldn't give them a lift, and either not expect to have to account for it, or not care if they had to account for it. That sort of attitude didn't come solely from the mens own heads. [/wank]

What I do think is that the 3 people should be "punished" without taking the emotion of the general public into account. There's no point in lynching anyone.
I don't know if they're psychopathic. I'm assuming they aren't.

I wonder if they even really thought they'd get away with it, or thought of anything in that situation except inflicting severe harm. Where else could this action have arisen from ? Seems to me that it was purely impulsive, not a product of attitude.

Agreed

I don't know if they're psychopathic. I'm assuming they aren't.

I'm assuming they probably are. No empathy, totally impulsive.

Empathy from them? You obviously don't live in Limerick do you? Pretty soon after the petrol bombing they all handed themselves in after the reporting of the kids. They DID NOT realise there was kids in the back seat of the car, the judge recognised this in court. Everyone round here knew that while yes they're idiots for wanting to burn down her car for not giving her a lift but even they didn't want to go as far as burning kids.
